Athletics At The 2018 Commonwealth Games – Men's 100 Metres
The men's 100 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as part of the athletics programme, took place in the Carrara Stadium on 8 and 9 April 2018. Akani Simbine of South Africa won the gold medal, running a time of 10.03 seconds in the final. Akani Simbine won his first international 100 m title, delivering an upset over Yohan Blake – the second fastest man on the all-time lists who stumbled in the final after leading the semi-finals on time. Henricho Bruintjies, Simbine's compatriot who had entered the final as the slowest of the qualifiers, split the men to win silver. Adam Gemili, the 2014 silver medallist and third fastest in the semifinals, withdrew from the final due to injury. Carrara Stadium (known commercially as Metricon Stadium) is a stadium on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, located in the suburb of Carrara. The stadium is primarily used for Australian rules football, serving as the home ground of the Gold Coast Suns, who compete in the Australian Football League. Shernyl Curzohn Burns (born 11 October 1991) is a West Indian cricketer and sprinter. Burns is a right-handed batsman who bowls leg break googly. He was born on Montserrat, who he also represented in sprinting at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In January 2008, Montserrat were invited to take part in the 2008 Stanford 20/20, whose matches held official Twenty20 status. Burns made his Twenty20 debut for Montserrat in their preliminary round match against the Turks and Caicos Islands. In the Turks and Caicos Islands innings of 67 for 9, Burns ran out both Donovan Matthews and Sabuton John. He wasn't required to bat in Montserrat's nine wicket victory. Kelvin Tuʻiala Masoe (born 4 March 1999 in Satuiatua) is a Samoan track and field sprinter who competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He attended school at Vaiola College on the island of Savaii in Samoa. Athletics career Masoe competed for Samoa at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the men's 100 m and the men's 200 m sprint events. In the men's 100 m, Masoe was drafted into heat 2 of the competition, he ran the race in a new personal best of 10.72 seconds and finished fifth place out of out of seven athletes, this time was unable to advance Masoe through to the later rounds. In the men's 200 m, Masoe was drafted into heat 7 and finished seventh out of the eight athletes that raced, beating only Pako Seribe who did not finish the race. Shavez Hart (6 September 1992 – 3 September 2022) was a Bahamian track and field sprinter from Coopers Town Abaco Islands, who mainly competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. His 100 metres personal best of 10.10 seconds makes him the third fastest Bahamian of all time behind Derrick Atkins, and second fastest Bahamian-born sprinter. His 200 metres personal best of 20.23 makes him the fourth fastest Bahamian of all time. He was a graduate of St. Georges High School in Freeport, Bahamas. Ramon Gittens (born July 20, 1987) is a Barbadian sprinter. He represented his country at the 2012 Summer Olympics as well as four outdoor World Championships in Athletics. He was the 100 meters silver medalist at the 2015 Pan American Games. He competed for Barbados at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100 m and 200 m events. Kolinio Radrudru (born 17 February 2001 in Nabouwalu) is a Fijian track and field sprinter who competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Results In 2018, Radrudru competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Radrudru was drafted into heat 1 with six other athletes. He finished 6th with a time of 11.22 seconds beating only Kiribati's, Tirioro Willie. Radrudru was not able to qualify through to the next round as a top two finisher in his heat or fastest loser. Oluwasegun Makinde (born 6 July 1991) is a Nigeria-born Canadian athlete competing in sprinting events. Born in Maiduguri, Nigeria, Makinde moved with his family to Canada in 1992. He was an unused relay member at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He won the gold medal in the 200 metres at the 2013 Jeux de la Francophonie. In July 2016, he was named to Canada's Olympic team.
