Ateliers De Construction De La Meuse
''Ateliers de construction de La Meuse'' (french: La société anonyme des Ateliers de construction de La Meuse) are a manufacturing and engineering company based in Liège in Belgium. During the period from 1888 to 1958, La Meuse built 1350 steam locomotives some for Belgian State Railways (later NMBS/SNCB), and many more for industrial networks. Of these a substantial number survive worldwide. The company still exists today, focusing on boilermaking, mechanics and the assembly of large-scale machinery. They have facilities in Sclessin and Seraing. History The origins of the business date back to the 16th century. During 1835 Charles Marcellis, forge master, moved his business to La Boverie, Liège. The company was set up as Société Anonyme des Ateliers de la Meuse. In 1872, the name was changed to Société Anonyme des Ateliers de construction de La Meuse. Belgian State Railways Type 10
The Belgian State Railways Type 10, later known as the NMBS/SNCB Type 10, was a class of steam locomotives built between 1910 and 1914. The class was used to work express trains operated by the Belgian State Railways and its successor, the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB), which was established in 1926. The locomotives were noteworthy for their unusually short boiler, which ended behind all four cylinders. This was due to the class sharing the boiler design with the Type 36 2-10-0 freight design, and the 2-10-0's weight limitations determined the length of the boiler. The Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil was one of the principal railways of Brazil, uniting the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The NMBS/SNCB Type 36 was a class of Decapod steam locomotives built from 1909 to 1914 for heavy freight service in Belgium operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium. Design and construction The class was designed by engineer Jean-Baptiste Flamme and built by NMBS/SNCB themselves, in their central railway workshops in Mechelen, Belgium. The Belgian State Railways Type 29 was a class of steam locomotives for freight service, introduced in 1875. Construction history The locomotives were built in two main series, the first series from 1875 to 1884 and the second from 1898 to 1901. The later machines differed by the dimensions of the boiler, the shelter, suspension and appearance of the smoke box. Some of the older series were eventually reboilered.
