''At the Top of the Stairs'' (french: En haut des marches) is a 1983 French drama film starring Danielle Darrieux, and was directed by Paul Vecchiali. Paul Vecchiali (28 April 1930 – 18 January 2023) was a French filmmaker and author. Biography Vecchiali was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, France. He spent his childhood in Toulon. His family, suspected of collaboration, preferred to leave this city after the war. His cinema took as a starting point the French cinema of the 1930s, with an experimental and autobiographical tone. Danielle Darrieux
Danielle Yvonne Marie Antoinette Darrieux (; 1 May 1917 – 17 October 2017) was a French actress of stage, television and film, as well as a singer and dancer. Beginning in 1931, she appeared in more than 110 films. She was one of France's great movie stars and her eight-decade career was among the longest in film history. Life and career Darrieux was born in Bordeaux, France, during World War I, the daughter of Marie-Louise (Witkowski) and Jean Darrieux, a medical doctor who was serving in the French Army. Her mother was born in Algeria. Her father died when she was seven years old. Raised in Paris, she studied the cello at the Conservatoire de Musique. At 14, she won a part in the musical film '' Le Bal'' (1931). Gisèle Pascal (17 September 1921 – 2 February 2007) was a French actress and a former lover of Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. She was born Gisèle Marie Madeleine Tallone at Cannes, France. Her first movie role was in 1942's '' L'Arlésienne''. For six years, she was involved in a relationship with Prince Rainier, and lived together in a villa in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
