ASTANO or Astilleros y Talleres del Noroeste (English: Shipyards and Workshops of the Northwest) is a shipbuilding company based in Fene (Galicia), Fene, Ferrolterra, Spain, near the city of Ferrol, Spain, Ferrol, which flourished during the 1960s and the early 1970s coinciding with the end of the Francisco Franco era and the arrival of democracy. From the late 1980s and early 1990s the possibility of joining the other shipyards of Ferrolterra and from the year 2000 forms an integral part of NAVANTIA formerly IZAR. Ferrol is a coastal ''comarca'' in the northwest of the province of A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. It is also known as Ferrolterra. The area is 613.4 km2, and the overall population of this ''comarca'' was 161,154 at the 2011 Census; the latest official estimate (at the start of 2018) was 153,776.Estimate at 1 January 2018: Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Madrid. Ferrol, Spain
Ferrol () is a city in the Province of A Coruña in Galicia, on the Atlantic coast in north-western Spain, in the vicinity of Strabo's Cape Nerium (modern day Cape Prior). ''Castillo de Salas'' was a Spanish bulk carrier that was launched in Ferrol on 20 December 1979 and completed in August 1980. It measured over 50,000 gross tons, and had a deadweight of over 100,000 tons, measured approximately in length, across the beam, and in draft. It required a crew complement of 32.
