Assumption Of The Virgin (Tintoretto)
''Assumption of the Virgin'' is a c.1555 oil on canvas painting by Tintoretto, now in the I Gesuiti, Venice, I Gesuiti. It and ''Presentation at the Temple (Tintoretto, Gallerie dell'Accademia), Presentation at the Temple'' (Gallerie dell'Accademia) were both originally painted for the church of Santa Maria della Sanità, Milan, Santa Maria dei Crociferi. Its colouring is similar to that of Paolo Veronese and Carlo Ridolfi wrote of it that originally Veronese had gained the commission for it before Tintoretto took it from him by promising to produce the work in Veronese's style. Tintoretto
Tintoretto ( , , ; born Jacopo Robusti; late September or early October 1518Bernari and de Vecchi 1970, p. 83.31 May 1594) was an Italian painter identified with the Venetian school. His contemporaries both admired and criticized the speed with which he painted, and the unprecedented boldness of his brushwork. For his phenomenal energy in painting he was termed Il Furioso ("The Furious"). The church of Santa Maria Assunta, known as I Gesuiti, is a religious building in Venice, northern Italy. It is located in the sestiere of Cannaregio, in Campo dei Gesuiti, not far from the Fondamenta Nuove. The Gallerie dell'Accademia is a museum gallery of pre-19th-century art in Venice, northern Italy. It is housed in the Scuola della Carità on the south bank of the Grand Canal, within the sestiere of Dorsoduro. It was originally the gallery of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, the art academy of Venice, from which it became independent in 1879, and for which the Ponte dell'Accademia and the Accademia boat landing station for the ''vaporetto'' water bus are named. Santa Maria della Sanità also known as dei Crociferi, is a late-Baroque architecture, Baroque or Rococo style, Roman Catholic church located on Via Durini #19 in Milan, in the region of Lombardy in Italy. History The church was commissioned by the Camillians, Camillian order, who were also known as the ''Crociferi'', and design of the church with its five chapels was originally by Giovanni Battista Quadrio. The undulating facade, described as a ''violoncello'' and with a roofline in the shape of the late 18th century marshal's bicorn hat, was designed by Carlo Federico Pietrasanta. The facade remains in brick, and never finished with marble decoration. The adjacent Collegio of the Camillians was privatized when the order was suppressed in 1799 and is now divided into apartments. Inside the church, Ferdinando Porta painted the ''St Joseph in Agony'' and Pietro Maggi painted the ''Assumption of the Virgin'' in the choir.

Carlo Ridolfi
Carlo Ridolfi (1594–1658) was an Italian art biographer and painter of the Baroque period. Biography Ridolfi was born in Lonigo near Vicenza. He was a pupil of the painter Antonio Vassilacchi (Aliense). He painted a ''Visitation'' for the Ognissanti and an ''Adoration of the Magi'' for San Giovanni Elemosinario in Venice. He copied Tintoretto's ''Christ Washing the Disciples' Feet'' in San Marcuola, before it came to the collection of King Charles I of England. Ridolfi's copy still remains in San Marcuola. He was certainly best known, in his own day and ever since, as an author on art. Carlo Ridolfi was also an important collector of drawings, such as Giorgio Vasari.
