Assolna ( '' Konkani'':असोळणें or Osollonne) is a village, considered a town for census purposes, in the Salcete sub-district of South Goa district, in the state of Goa, India. It is known for restaurants, ferry, the small traditional market, and local institutions. The river Sal flows through this town. Geography Assolna is located at . It has an average elevation of . Assolna is 11 km from Margao, the main South Goa district headquarters town. It is 13.9 km away from Quepem and Curtorim village is 22.1 km away. In its environs are Chinchinim (4.6 km away), Velim (3 km), Ambelim (3 km), Cuncolim (2.4 km), and Cavelossim. Assolna nestles between these villages. It is locally administered by a village panchayat, whose building was inaugurated in October 1984. Population As per the 2011 Census, it had a population of 3410 persons, in 891 homes. Juliao Menezes
Juliao Menezes (7 August 1909 – 2 July 1980), popularly known as Dr. Juliao Menezes was an Indian freedom fighter, medical practitioner, author and nationalist leader from Goa. He was one of the salient individuals in liberating Goa from the Portuguese rule and was active in the Goa liberation movement. Menezes established the "''Gomantak Praja Mandal''" for widespread of national passion for Goans. He was also a member of the provisional committee of the National Congress in Goa and was present at its session in 1948. He played an active part, during its formation. Menezes along with socialist leader, Ram Manohar Lohia planned the civil disobedience movement against Salazar's regime in Goa.
