Associação Desportiva Niterói was a Brazilian football club from Niterói in Rio de Janeiro state, which was founded on April 11, 1944 and dissolved in 1983. The team competed in the Campeonato Carioca from 1979 to 1981 and participated in the first Taça Brasil in 1959. History The team was founded as Manufatora Atlético Clube by the workers of the Cia. Manufatora Fluminense de Tecidos, in the Barreto neighborhood. From the 1950s, it started to participate in the Campeonato Fluminense, winning it for the first time in 1958, after beating Rio Branco de Campos in the finals, and thus was the first Fluminense representative in the Taça Brasil. In its only participation, it was eliminated in the first stage, with two losses against Espírito Santo's Rio Branco. In 1977, it won the Fluminense championship again, defeating Itaboraí in the finals. The 1981 edition of the Campeonato Carioca kicked off on May 23, 1981 and ended on December 6, 1981. It is the official tournament organized by FFERJ (Federação de Futebol do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, or Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation. The Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championship), officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (Port., Rio de Janeiro State Championship), was started in 1906 and is the annual football championship in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is under the authority of the FERJ or FFERJ (Football Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro). The first season of the ''Campeonato Carioca'' was played in 1906. The 1959 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (officially the 1959 Taça Brasil) was the 1st edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Campeonato Fluminense
The Campeonato Fluminense was the football league of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the period when the Guanabara state and the Rio de Janeiro state where two separated states. Until 1960, Rio de Janeiro city was the Brazilian capital and was not part of Rio de Janeiro state. In 1960, with the inauguration of Brasília as the new capital of Brazil, the city of Rio de Janeiro became the new Guanabara state. Only in 1975 the states of Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara fused forming present day's Rio de Janeiro state, but the Campeonato Fluminense continued separately until 1978, after which all its clubs joined the city league, the Campeonato Carioca.
