Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Saeed Al Maktoum is a United Arab Emirati politician and royalty of Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed is the first cousin of the current Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the head of the Dubai Land Department, the land registrar of the Emirate of Dubai. He was educated at the Bell Educational Trust's English Language School, Cambridge. He was appointed in 1971 (the establishment of UAE) by his first cousin, the Emir (ruler) of Dubai, Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Emir Maktoum himself was the first chairman since 1960. Danzig (February 12, 1977 – January 4, 2006) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who is best known as a leading sire. He was purchased for $310,000 (equivalent to $ million in ) by Henryk de Kwiatkowski at the 1978 Saratoga Yearling Sale. The son of Hall of Famer Northern Dancer and the most commercially successful sire of the second half of the 20th century, he won all three of his races before knee problems ended his racing career. Stud record Danzig was retired to stand at stud at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky, where he became one of the world's most important sires. He led the U.S. sires list from 1991 to 1993 and topped the sire list in Spain and the United Arab Emirates. Danzig sired 188 graded stakes race winners and 10 champions. Curlin (foaled March 25, 2004, in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred horse racing, racehorse who was the American Horse of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. The Burj Nahaar, is a horse race run over a distance of 1,600 metres (one mile) on dirt in March at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. The race is named after the Burj Nahar, a fortified tower on Dubai's old city walls. The Burj Nahaar was first contested in 2002 at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. It became a Listed race in 2005 and was elevated to Group 3 level a year later. International Stakes
The International Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at York over a distance of 1 mile, 2 furlongs and 56 yards (2,063 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event was devised by Major Leslie Petch, a former Clerk of the Course at York. It was first run in 1972, but by this time Petch had resigned from his position due to ill health. The race was originally sponsored by Benson and Hedges and called the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup. The inaugural running was won by Roberto, that year's Derby winner. The second-placed horse was Brigadier Gerard – his only defeat in a career of eighteen races. The Sussex Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Goodwood over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late July or early August. It continued intermittently for thirty-seven years, but it was uncontested on twenty-five occasions including fourteen walkovers. The Sussex Stakes became a 1-mile race for three-year-olds in 1878.
