Aseel Al-Awadhi
Aseel al-Awadhi (born 1969) is a former member of the National Assembly of Kuwait. She was a professor of philosophy at Kuwait University before moving into politics. Al-Awadhi first stood for a seat on the National Assembly in 2008, losing the election but gaining the highest number of votes for a female candidate since women were allowed to stand. She was elected representative of Kuwait's Third District in 2009; a post that she held until 2012. Education After studying philosophy at Kuwait University, al-Awadhi earned her PhD in philosophy at the University of Texas. Upon returning to Kuwait she became a professor of philosophy at Kuwait University. Political career Al-Awadhi first stood in the 2008 general election as part of the National Democratic Alliance. Ali Al-Omair
Ali Al-Omair (born 1958) is a Kuwaiti politician. From January 2014 through November 2015, he served as Oil Minister in the cabinet of Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, succeeding Mustafa Jassem Al-Shamali. He was a member of the National Assembly of Kuwait, Kuwaiti National Assembly, representing the Kuwait's Third District, third district. Born in 1958, Al-Omair obtained a PhD in chemistry and worked as a professor before being elected to the National Assembly in 2006. While political parties are technically illegal in Kuwait, Al-Omair affiliates with the Islamic Salafi Alliance (Kuwait), Islamic Salafi Alliance party. Supported Zakat law In November 2007, the parliament voted 51-2 to approve a law requiring all Kuwaiti public and shareholding companies to pay Zakat every year. Early general elections were held in Kuwait on 1 December 2012 after early elections in February 2012 were declared invalid. In the elections, Shi'as won 17 out of 50 seats in the National Assembly, an increase from the seven won in the February elections. Sunni Islamists were reduced to a minority. Three women also entered the Parliament compared to men-only from the February election, but their number decreased compared to the 2009 election. Turnout was officially reported to be 43%, the lowest in the Kuwaiti electoral history. Early general elections were held in Kuwait on 2 February 2012, the country's second general election in a three-year period. The election's turnout rate was 59%.. One hour before polls closed, 238308/400296=59.53 percent, rounds to 60 percent. However, in June 2012 the Constitutional Court declared the elections invalid and reinstated the former parliament.
