As Time Goes By (UK TV Series)
''As Time Goes By'' is a British romantic sitcom which aired on BBC One from 12 January 1992 to 14 December 2005, running for nine series and two specials. It has made it into the top 30 of Britain's Best Sitcom. Starring Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, it follows the relationship between two former lovers who meet unexpectedly after not having been in contact for 38 years. The programme's original working title had been ''Winter with Flowers'' but was changed during its first day of filming due to the cast's protestations. The new title was taken from the 1931 Herman Hupfeld song " As Time Goes By", and the recorded version by Joe Fagin was used as the title music. The show was created by Colin Bostock-Smith, was produced and directed by Sydney Lotterby and was written by Bob Larbey, who had co-written both '' The Good Life'' and ''Ever Decreasing Circles'' with John Esmonde. Jenny Funnell
Jenny Victoria Funnell (born 20 May 1963) is a British actress best known for her role as Sandy in the long-running British sitcom '' As Time Goes By'' from 1992 to 2005. Early life Funnell was born in Kenya and has a twin sister. She moved to the UK when she was four years old, and attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art She initially started voice acting in radio drama while still a student at drama school, winning the Carleton Hobbs BBC Radio Drama Award in 1984. Mykola Pawluk
Mykola Andrej Pawluk (born 23 June 1956) is an English television video editor whose career has spanned four decades mostly in the media of comedy. He has twice been nominated for a BAFTA. Born in Windsor in Berkshire, the son of Wasyl Pawluk and Gerta L Giesen, he was raised in Egham in Surrey by his German mother and Ukrainian father. He attended Egham Hythe Secondary Modern School in Egham during the 1960s. He married Julia Ince in 1981. ''The Good Life'' is a British sitcom, produced by BBC television. It ran from 4 April 1975 to 10 June 1978 on BBC 1 and was written by Bob Larbey and John Esmonde. Opening with the midlife crisis of Tom Good, a 40-year-old plastics designer, it relates the joys and setbacks he and his wife Barbara experience when they attempt to escape a modern "rat race" lifestyle by "becoming totally self-sufficient" in their suburban house in Surbiton. In 2004, it came 9th in ''Britain's Best Sitcom''. The lead roles are taken by Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal. Joe Fagin (born January 1940) is a British pop singer-songwriter. He is best known for the 1984 chart hit "Breakin' Away / That's Livin' Alright", and for singing a version of " As Time Goes By" for the 1990s BBC comedy series of the same name starring Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. Biography Fagin was musical director for Jim Davidson, including his 1983 Falklands tour. "As Time Goes By" is a jazz song written by Herman Hupfeld in 1931. It became famous when it was featured in the 1942 Warner Bros. film ''Casablanca'', performed by Dooley Wilson as Sam. The song was voted No. 2 on the AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs special, commemorating the best songs in film (only surpassed by " Over the Rainbow" by Judy Garland). Herman Hupfeld (February 1, 1894June 8, 1951) was an American songwriter whose most notable composition was " As Time Goes By". He wrote both the lyrics and music. Life and career Hupfeld was born in Montclair, New Jersey, the son of Fredericka (Rader), a church organist, and Charles Ludwig Hupfeld. He was sent to study violin in Germany at age 9.Roger D. ''Britain's Best Sitcom'' was a BBC media campaign in which television viewers were asked to decide the best British situation comedy. Viewers could vote via telephone, SMS, or BBC Online. This first round of voting was conducted in 2003, after which the BBC published a list of the top 100 selections. From this list, they produced a 12-episode television series broadcast by BBC Two from January through to March 2004.
