Artur Baghdasarian
Artur Baghdasaryan ( hy, Արթուր Բաղդասարյան, born November 8, 1968) is an Armenian politician and former Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia and a former Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia. He is the leader of the Rule of Law party. He is married and has two children. Biography Baghdasaryan was born in Yerevan. In 1985, he finished the Khachatur Abovian Secondary School in Yerevan. In the same year, he entered the Law Faculty of Yerevan State University and graduated in 1992. Orinats Yerkir ( hy, Օրինաց երկիր, lit=Rule of Law, ՕԵԿ/OEK) is a political party operating in Armenia. Its foundation was in 1998, and founder Artur Baghdasaryan continues to lead the party. The party was formerly known as Armenian Renaissance ( hy, Հայկական վերածնունդ, translit=Haykakan veratsnund), during the run-up to the 2017 parliamentary elections. The party's name is translated into English in a number of ways, including Country of Law and Rule of Law. Levon Hakobi Ter-Petrosyan ( hy, Լևոն Հակոբի Տեր-Պետրոսյան; born 9 January 1945), also known by his initials LTP, is an Armenian politician who served as the first president of Armenia from 1991 until his resignation in 1998. 2008 Armenian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Armenia on 19 February 2008. Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was elected in the first round according to official results, but this was disputed by former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who was officially placed second. The candidacy of Sargsyan was backed by incumbent President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, who was ineligible to stand for a third consecutive term. 2005 Armenian Constitutional Referendum
A constitutional referendum was held in Armenia on 27 November 2005. The referendum was on a series of changes to the constitution of Armenia which were backed by the international community. The official results had a high turnout and overwhelming support for the changes. However the opposition and election monitors said that there were serious irregularities with the referendum. The referendum was nicknamed the "referendum of ghosts" by the opposition. Background As part of Armenia's commitment on joining the Council of Europe in 2001 changes to the 1995 constitution of Armenia were required. An earlier attempt at amending it were unsuccessful at a 2003 referendum.
