Artrocker
Artrocker is a UK-based collective involved in music promotion and publishing. It was started by Paul Cox and Tom Fawcett who had been co-promoters of a London night called The Sausage Machine. Having started life with an online newsletter and event promotion in 2001, it has since expanded into various endeavours including a monthly magazine, various websites, a record label, video production, and a weekly radio show. Artrocker has a reputation for talent-spotting and supporting bands before they become well known. They were the first promoters to bring the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Black Keys to the UK and the first to put on concerts in London by The Datsuns, Maxïmo Park, and The Futureheads. Artrocker Magazine
''Artrocker'' magazine is an independent monthly publication, concentrating on music and modern culture, available across the United Kingdom. Before switching to a digital format in 2013, it was stocked in larger branches of newsagents, though its main availability was in music stores. The magazine started life as a weekly email newsletter before evolving into a printed magazine. Issue one featured KaitO on the cover and was released on 4 October 2004. The publication appeared on a bi-weekly basis until November 2007 (issue 72), when the magazine began publication on a monthly basis. Launching its first digital edition in 2010, Artrocker slowly phased out the print issue, with the tablet version outselling the magazine by 2012. The Futureheads
The Futureheads are an English post-punk band from Sunderland, formed in 2000. The band consists of Ross Millard (vocals and guitar), David "Jaff" Craig (vocals and bass guitar) and brothers Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar) and Dave Hyde (drums). Their name comes from the title of The Flaming Lips album '' Hit to Death in the Future Head''. The band's influences include new wave and post-punk bands such as Gang of Four, Devo, XTC, Wire and Fugazi. Career Early days The band met at City of Sunderland College as a quartet consisting of Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar), David "Jaff" Craig (vocals and bass guitar), Peter Brewis (drums), and Ross Millard (vocals and guitar). Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The group is composed of vocalist and pianist Karen O (born Karen Lee Orzolek), guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. They are complemented in live performances by second guitarist David Pajo (formerly of Slint and Tortoise), who joined as a touring member in 2009 and replaced Imaad Wasif, who had previously held the role. According to an interview that aired during ABC's ''Live from Central Park SummerStage'' series, the band's name was taken from modern New York City vernacular. The Black Keys
The Black Keys are an American rock duo formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2000s. The band's raw blues rock sound draws heavily from Auerbach's blues influences, including Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Howlin' Wolf, and Robert Johnson. Friends since childhood, Auerbach and Carney founded the group after dropping out of college. The Datsuns
The Datsuns are a hard rock band from Cambridge, New Zealand, formed in 1998. Founding mainstays are Rudolf "Dolf" de Borst on vocals and bass guitar, and Christian Livingstone and Phil Somervell, both on guitar. They have released seven albums, with their debut self-titled album from October 2002 peaking at No. 1 in New Zealand and reaching the top 20 on the United Kingdom's Official Charts. They had relocated to London in 2002. Their second album, ''Outta Sight/Outta Mind'' (May 2004), appeared at No. 7 in New Zealand and top 60 in the UK. Maxïmo Park are an English alternative rock band, formed in 2000 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band consists of Paul Smith (vocals), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), and Tom English (drums). Resonance Fm
Resonance 104.4 FM is a London based non-profit community radio station specialising in the arts run by the London Musicians' Collective (LMC). The station is staffed by four permanent staff members, including programme controller Ed Baxter and over 300 volunteer technical and production staff. Until September 2007, its studios were located on Denmark Street before moving to its present location at 144 Borough High Street, Southwark. The station broadcasts to a radius on 104.4 MHz FM from a transmitter on the roof of Guy's Hospital at London Bridge.
