Arthur Sowden
Arthur Sowden (6 April 1878 – 24 December 1954) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Sowden played as a wingman and represented the VFL in an interstate fixture against South Australia in 1902. Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles. Caulfield is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Glen Eira local government area. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. The 1906 VFL season was the tenth season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured eight clubs, ran from 5 May until 22 September, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the first time, after it defeated by 49 points in the 1906 VFL Grand Final.
