Arthur Robertson Cushny
Arthur Robertson Cushny FRS FRSE LLD (6 March 1866 – 25 February 1926), was a Scottish pharmacologist and physiologist who became a Fellow of the Royal Society. Life Cushny was born on 6 March 1866 in Fochabers, Moray, Scotland, the fourth son of Rev John Cushny of Speymouth and his wife, Catherine Ogilvie Brown. He attended a local rural school until he enrolled at the University of Aberdeen and received an M.A. in 1886. Then in 1889 he graduated from medical studies at Marischal College, Aberdeen, receiving C.M., M.B. and M.D. degrees in 1892. Aroused by interests of physiological drug interaction, he traveled to the European continent and spent a year of associated study under Oswald Schmiedeberg at Straßburg, German Empire and six months in Berne under Hugo Kronecker, from whom he learned elements of physiological technique. Arthur Robinson FRSE FRCS FRCSE LLD (1862–1948) was a British anatomist who served as President of the Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland 1920 to 1922. He created the terms "opposed placentae" and "conjoined placentae". Life He was born on 8 April 1862 in Manchester, the son of James Robinson. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh graduating MBChB in 1883. He then became a Demonstrator in William Turner's anatomy class. He then went to Owen's College in Manchester as a Demonstrator to Professor A.H. Young and the Victoria University in Manchester. John Horne
John Horne PRSE FRS FRSE FEGS LLD (1 January 1848 – 30 May 1928) was a Scottish geologist. He served as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh from 1915 to 1919. Life Horne was born on 1 January 1848, in Campsie, Stirlingshire, the son of Janet (''née'' Braid) and James Horne of Newmill, a farmer. He was educated at the High School, Glasgow, and the University of Glasgow where he studied under Lord Kelvin. He left university without graduating at the age on 19. Sir Edward Albert Sharpey-Schafer FRS FRSE FRCP LLD (2 June 1850 – 29 March 1935) was an English physiologist. He is regarded as a founder of endocrinology: in 1894 he discovered and demonstrated the existence of adrenaline together with George Oliver, and he also coined the term "endocrine" for the secretions of the ductless glands. Sir Thomas Richard Fraser (5 February 1841 – 4 January 1920) was a British physician and pharmacologist. Together with Alexander Crum Brown he discovered the relationship between physiological activity and chemical constitution of the body. Life He was born in Calcutta in India on 5 February 1841, the second son of Mary Palmer and John Richard Fraser, Indian civil servant. The nephron is the minute or microscopic structural and functional unit of the kidney. It is composed of a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule.
