Arthur Kullmer
__NOTOC__ Arthur Kullmer (17 August 1896 – 28 March 1953) was a German general during World War II who commanded several divisions. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves of Nazi Germany. Kullmer died on 28 March 1953 in Soviet captivity. Sverdlovsk Oblast ( rus, Свердловская область, Sverdlovskaya oblast) is a federal subject (an oblast) of Russia located in the Ural Federal District. Its administrative center is the city of Yekaterinburg, formerly known as Sverdlovsk. Its population is 4,297,747 (according to the 2010 Census). Geography Most of the oblast is spread over the eastern slopes of the Middle and North Urals and the Western Siberian Plain. Only in the southwest does the oblast stretch onto the western slopes of the Ural Mountains. The highest mountains all rise in the North Urals, Konzhakovsky Kamen at and Denezhkin Kamen at . Knight's Cross Of The Iron Cross
The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (german: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes), or simply the Knight's Cross (), and its variants, were the highest awards in the military and paramilitary forces of Nazi Germany during World War II. The Knight's Cross was awarded for a wide range of reasons and across all ranks, from a senior commander for skilled leadership of his troops in battle to a low-ranking soldier for a single act of military valour. Presentations were made to members of the three military branches of the : the (army), the (navy) and the (air force), as well as the , the Reich Labour Service and the (German People storm militia), along with personnel from other Axis powers. The award was instituted on 1 September 1939, at the onset of the German invasion of Poland. The award was created to replace the many older merit and bravery neck awards of the German Empire. Kurt Versock
__NOTOC__ Kurt Versock (14 February 1895 – 17 March 1963) was a German general who was awarded the Knight's Cross during World War II. Versock joined the army in 1914, taking part in World War I. After the war he was retained in the Reichswehr and then served in the Wehrmacht. He took part in the Invasion of Poland in 1939 and Operation Barbarossa as front-line commander. In August 1942, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. In May 1943 he appointed commander of the 24th Infantry Division. In September 1944, he was appointed commander of the XXXXIII Army Corps and tasked with the organization of the coastal defense of the Courland operation. In November 1944 he was promoted to ''General der Gebirgstruppe''. In March 1945 the General Command of the XXXXIII Army Corps was evacuated over sea from the Courland Pocket and added to the 8th army in Northern Hungary. __NOTOC__ Alfons Hitter (4 June 1892, Hochstatt, Alsace-Lorraine – 11 March 1968) was a German general during World War II who commanded the 206th Infantry Division. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves of Nazi Germany. Hitter surrendered to Soviet forces during Operation Bagration when his division was encircled at Vitebsk. Convicted as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, he was held in prison for eleven years, joining the National Committee for a Free Germany while in captivity. He was released in 1955. The War Order of the German Cross (german: Der Kriegsorden Deutsches Kreuz), normally abbreviated to the German Cross or ''Deutsches Kreuz'', was instituted by Adolf Hitler on 28 September 1941. It was awarded in two divisions: in gold for repeated acts of bravery or military leadership; and in silver for distinguished non-combat war service. The German Cross in Gold ranked higher than the Iron Cross First Class but below the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, while the German Cross in Silver ranked higher than the War Merit Cross First Class with Swords but below the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords.
