Arsène Herbinier
Arsène Julien Herbinier (14 May 1869 – before 1955 in Paris) was a French lithograph artist. Herbinier was born in Paris in 1869, the son of Aimée Arsène Herbinier. He studied with Luc-Olivier Merson, Eugène Grasset and Alfred Jean Marie Broquelet. He specialized in lithography. His work was exhibited by the Société des Artistes Français, and in 1909 he was elected a full member of this society and awarded a third class medal. His works were typical of the Art Nouveau Art Nouveau (; ) is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts. Luc-Olivier Merson
Luc-Olivier Merson (21 May 1846 – 13 November 1920) was a French academic painter and illustrator also known for his postage stamp and currency designs. Biography Born Nicolas Luc-Olivier Merson in Paris, France, he grew up in an artistic household, the son of Charles-Olivier Merson, a painter and art critic. He studied under Gustave Chassevent at the École de Dessin and then Isidore Pils at the École des Beaux-Arts. Merson had his first work exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1866 and three years later was awarded the Prix de Rome. During the five years spent working in Italy, he concentrated on religious and historical subjects for his art. Back in France, in 1875 he won the first-prize medal at the exhibition by the Société des artistes français. Eugène Grasset
Eugène Samuel Grasset (25 May 1845 – 23 October 1917) was a Swiss decorative artist who worked in Paris, France in a variety of creative design fields during the Belle Époque. He is considered a pioneer in Art Nouveau design. Biography Grasset was born in Lausanne, Switzerland on 25 May 1845. He was raised in an artistic environment as the son of a cabinetmaker and sculptor who taught him at an early age how to use the chisel and the gouge. He studied drawing under Francois-Louis David Bocion (1828–1890) and in 1861 went to Zürich to study architecture. After completing his education, he visited Egypt, an experience that would later be reflected in a number of his poster designs. He became an admirer of Japanese art, which influenced some of his designs as well. Between 1869 and 1870, Grasset worked as a painter and sculptor in Lausanne. The Société des Artistes Français (, meaning "Society of French Artists") is the association of French painters and sculptors established in 1881. Its annual exhibition is called the "Salon des artistes français" (not to be confused with the better-known Salon, established in 1667). When the Société was established, it associated all the French artists. Its president was a painter and its vice-president a sculptor. The main task of the Société is to organize the ''Salon'', since the French government ceased to do it. Secession In December 1890 president Bouguereau suggested that the ''Salon'' should be an exhibition of young, yet unrecognized, artists. Ernest Meissonier, Puvis de Chavannes, Auguste Rodin and others rejected this proposal and left the organization. Art Nouveau (; ) is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts. The style is known by different names in different languages: in German, in Italian, in Catalan, and also known as the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style), Modern Style in English.
