The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). SCAR coordinates international scientific research efforts in Antarctica, including the Southern Ocean. SCAR's scientific work is administered through several discipline-themed ''science groups''. The Bastien Range () is an Antarctic mountain range of moderate height which extends in a NW-SE direction for about , flanking the SW side of Nimitz Glacier and the Sentinel Range, in the Ellsworth Mountains. Named by US-ACAN for Thomas W. Bastien, geologist, leader of the helicopter supported University of Minnesota Geological Party to these mountains, 1963–64. Bowers Corner
Bowers Corner () is a peak located southeast of Lishness Peak in Owen Ridge, the extreme south end of the main ridge of Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains. The feature stands at the eastern side of the terminus of Nimitz Glacier where it bends, or makes a corner, on joining Minnesota Glacier. It was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1957–59, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Lieutenant Richard A. Bowers, U.S. Navy Reserve, who was in charge of the construction crew which built the IGY South Pole Station in the 1956–57 season. Lishness Peak () is a peak, high, in Owen Ridge near the south end of the Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica, rising at the east side of Nimitz Glacier, southeast of Wilson Peak and northwest of Bowers Corner. It was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1957 to 1959, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Alton R.
