Arnold Green (politician)
Arnold Karlovich Green (30 August 1920 – 4 November 2011) was a Soviet and Estonian politician and president of the Estonian Olympic Committee from 1989 to 1997, leader of the Estonian Olympic team for the Games in Albertville, Barcelona, Lillehammer and Atlanta and former President of the Estonian Wrestling League and the Estonian Skiing League. Biography Born to an Estonian family in Riga, Latvia, in 1920, Green served in the Soviet Army in World War II, emerging as a Soviet political functionary of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic in the post-war years. From 1962 to 1990 he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Estonian SSR. Green participated in the organization of the 1980 Olympic Games sailing regatta in Tallinn. In 2001 he was awarded the Olympic Order by the IOC.

The Estonian Olympic Committee ( et, Eesti Olümpiakomitee) (EOK) is responsible for the Estonia's participation in the Olympic Games. History The Estonian Sports Federation ( et, Eesti Spordi Liit) decided to form the Estonian Olympic Committee in the First Estonian Sport Congress ( et, Eesti I Spordikongress) on 30 November 1919, one and a half years after the proclamation of the independence of Estonia, but it was officially founded on 8 December 1923. The first chairman of the committee dr. Friedrich Akel, Karl Friedrich Akel, was elected on 5 May 1924. An independent Estonia at the Olympics, Estonian team took part in the Olympic Games over the period of 1920–1936. As Estonia was invaded and occupied in 1940, and reoccupied by the Soviet Union in 1944, the Estonian Olympic athletes competed as part of the Soviet Union at the Olympics, USSR delegations at the Olympic Games from 1952 until 1988.
