Arminia Ludwigshafen is a German association football club from the Rheingönheim of the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Rhineland-Palatinate. History The club was founded 1 September 1903 as ''1. FC Arminia Rheingönheim'' and enjoyed some success in local level competition prior to the outbreak of World War I. Under the Nazis it was forced in to a merger with ''TSG Rheingönheim'' as part of a process of political consolidation that eliminated worker's clubs like ''1. FC'', as well as faith-based clubs, as being ideologically unacceptable to the regime. The club was reestablished as ''VfL Rheingönheim'' after World War II before once again becoming ''FC Arminia Rheingönheim'' on 22 October 1949. In 1969, the association adopted the name of the city of Ludwigshafen. ''FC'' first advanced to the Amateurliga Südwest (III) in 1966 where they would compete for nine seasons with their best result coming as a fourth-place finish in 1969–70. The Verbandsliga Südwest is a German amateur football division administered by the Southwest German Football Association, one of the 21 German state football associations. Being the top flight of the Southwestern state association, the Verbandsliga is a level 6 division of the German football league system. Promotion And Relegation
In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings. The Regionalliga () is the fourth tier in the German football league system. Until 1974, it was the second tier in Germany. In 1994, it was introduced as the third tier. South West Cup
The South West Cup (german: Südwestpokal) is one of the 21 regional cup competitions of German football. The winner of the competition gains entry to the first round of the German Cup. It is limited to clubs from the Rheinhessen-Pfalz region of Rhineland-Palatinate, however, teams from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga are not permitted to compete. It is one of two cup competitions in the state, the other being the Rhineland Cup, which covers roughly the northern half of the state. The competition is sponsored by the Bitburger brewery and carries the name Bitburger-Verbandspokal. It is operated by the South West German Football Association, the SWFV.
