Armed Forces Of Guinea-Bissau
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of the People ( pt, Forças Armadas Revolucionárias do Povo, abbr. FARP) is the national military of Guinea-Bissau. It consists of an army, a navy, an air force, and paramilitary forces. The World Bank estimated that there were around 4,000 personnel in the armed forces. The estimated military expenditure are $23.3 million, and military spending as a percentage of GDP is 1.7%. The World Fact Book reports that the military service age is 18–25 years of age for selective compulsory military service, and 16 years of age or younger for voluntary service, with parental consent. Revolutionary Armed Forces Of The People
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of the People ( pt, Forças Armadas Revolucionárias do Povo) or FARP were originally the armed wing of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde during the struggle against Portuguese rule in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. Since 1973, they constitute the national armed forces of Guinea-Bissau. A separate Cape Verdean branch of the FARP constituted the national armed forces of this country from 1975 until the early 1990s, when these were renamed " Cape Verdean Armed Forces". José Américo Bubo Na Tchuto (born 12 June 1949 Incalá, Tombali Region, Guinea-Bissau) is an admiral in the Navy of Guinea-Bissau. He was previously Chief of Staff of the Navy. On August 6, 2008, he was behind a failed coup attempt against President João Bernardo Vieira. He fled to the Gambia after the coup before returning to Guinea Bissau in 2009 following Vieira's assassination. Antonio Indjai
Antonio Indjai was Guinea-Bissau's army chief of staff from 2010 to 2014, and was one of the leaders in the military unrest of 1 April 2010. Indjai emerged from within the ruling junta during the destructive civil war which lasted from June 1998 to May 1999. In 1999, Indjai was named deputy commander of the northern military zone led by Tagme Na Waie. In 2004, Tagme was promoted to the top army post after the death of army chief General Verissimo Correia Seabra, and Indjai became leader of the northern military zone.
