Armando Salas
Armando Salas (30 January 1946, Ortigueira – 30 June 2019) was a Galician cartoonist. Salas was one of the first cartoonists to bring eroticism to Spanish publications in the form of semi-nude girls, tempered with irony and sarcasm during the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco. During this era in 1967, he began drawing professionally for the news-magazine '' Diez Minutos'', and for ''Comics Camp'' and ''Comics In'', a fanzine dedicated to the study of comics where he created "Saturday", an ironic take on "Sunday", a popular comics character created by Víctor de la Fuente. Around 1970, he contributed editorial cartoons to the daily ''Pueblo'', and he also joined the staff of the daily ''El Correo Gallego'' and the magazine ''Doblón''. That same year he started contributing on the TV journal ''Todo Television'', and he also created a syndicated panel series, "Don Teleneco", in which he satirized "couch potatoes". Ortigueira is a seaport and municipality in the province of A Coruña (province), A Coruña the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain, Galicia in northwestern Spain. It belongs to the Comarcas of Galicia, comarca of Ortegal. Maurice Horn
Maurice Horn (born 1931) is a French-American comics historian, author, and editor, considered to be one of the first serious academics to study comics. He is the editor of ''The World Encyclopedia of Comics'', ''The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons'', and ''100 Years of American Newspaper Comics''. Born in France, he is based in New York City. Career Horn grew up in France particularly fascinated by American comics. Anna Politkovskaya
Anna Stepanovna Politkovskaya (;, ; uk, Ганна Степанівна Політковська , 30 August 1958 – 7 October 2006) was a Russian journalist and human rights activist, who reported on political events in Russia, in particular, the Second Chechen War (1999–2005). It was her reporting from Chechnya that made Politkovskaya's national and international reputation. For seven years, she refused to give up reporting on the war despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence. Politkovskaya was arrested by Russian military forces in Chechnya and subjected to a mock execution. She was poisoned while flying from Moscow via Rostov-on-Don to help resolve the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis, and had to turn back, requiring careful medical treatment in Moscow to restore her health. ''Doblón'' was a Spanish language weekly news and business magazine which was in circulation between 1974 and 1976. Its subtitle was semanario de economía e información general (weekly economic and general information magazine). It was one of the critics of Franco regime. History and profile ''Doblón'' was launched in September 1974. José Antonio Martínez Soler was the founder of the magazine who had worked as the editor-in-chief of ''Cambio 16''. He started ''Doblón'' following his dismissal from ''Cambio 16''. Soler was kidnapped on 2 March 1976. The reason for his kidnapping was his article on civil guards which was published in ''Doblón'' on 10 February 1976. Soler escaped unhurt, but left the magazine and also, Spain in September 1976.
