Arlington Community Schools is the municipal school district in Arlington, Tennessee in Greater Memphis. History After Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools were merged in March 2011 (effective beginning 2013–2014 school year), several local municipalities attempted to create their own districts. After a protracted legal battle, several municipalities won the right to create their own school districts. Arlington Community Schools provides K-12 education for students residing within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Arlington. Through an Interlocal Agreement between Arlington Community Schools and Lakeland School System, high (9-12) school students in the neighboring municipality of Lakeland attend Arlington High School. Arlington is a town in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,569 at the 2000 census, 11,517 at the 2010 census, and 14,549 at the 2020 Census. From 2010 until 2020 the town's population grew by 26.326%. It is one of the seven municipalities in Shelby County. The town lies wholly within the borders of Shelby County. Memphis City Schools
Memphis City Schools (MCS) was the school district operating public schools in the city of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was headquartered in the Frances E. Coe Administration Building. On March 8, 2011, residents voted to disband the city school district, effectively merging it with the Shelby County School District. The merger took effect July 1, 2013. After much legal maneuvering, all six incorporated municipalities (other than Memphis) created separate school districts in 2014. Total enrollment, as of the 2010-2011 school year, was about 103,000 students, which made the district the largest in Tennessee. MCS served the entire city of Memphis. Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), previously known as Shelby County Schools (SCS), is a public school district that serves the city of Memphis, Tennessee, United States, as well as most of the unincorporated areas of Shelby County. MSCS is the 25th largest school district in the United States and the largest in Tennessee. The Lakeland School System (LSS) is a municipal school district serving the city of Lakeland, Tennessee, United States, within Greater Memphis. Lakeland Elementary School and Lakeland Preperatory School are within the district.
