Arlan Lerio
Arlan Lerio (born 22 November 1976) is a Filipino boxing, boxer. He competed in the Boxing at the 2000 Summer Olympics – Flyweight, men's flyweight event at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was part of the national training pool of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines as early as 1997 and won gold medals in international tournaments in England, Estonia, and Finland. Following his achievement of winning a gold medal in the Liverpool International Festival of Amateur Boxing in 1991, he was taken in as part of a boxing team by then-North Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol where his father Danilo Lerio Sr. served as coach of the team. In 2001, he reportedly had plans on turning pro with then North Cotabato Governor Piñol as his manager. Lerio has an younger brother named Danilo Lerio, Danilo who also competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Boxing At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Flyweight
The men's flyweight boxing competition at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney was held from 19 September to 1 October at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Competition format Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. This event consisted of 28 boxers who have qualified for the competition through various qualifying tournaments held in 1999 and 2000. The competition began with a preliminary round on 19 September, where the number of competitors was reduced to 16, and concluded with the final on 1 October. As there were fewer than 32 boxers in the competition, a number of boxers received a bye through the preliminary round. Both semi-final losers were awarded bronze medals. All bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Danilo Lerio
Danilo Lerio Jr. (born 15 November 1980) is a retired Filipino professional boxer. He competed in the men's light flyweight event at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He had a southpaw stance. Leading to the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney Lerio was mentored by Cuban coach Raul Liranza. Lerio lost his first and only bout in the Olympics against Rafael Lozano of Spain. His coach was dismissed from his position due to ordering Lerio to mix it up with his opponent despite leading four points with 17 seconds left in the bout. He later turned pro and was the last Filipino who competed in the Olympics to do until Mark Anthony Barriga in the mid-2010s.
