Arkitema Architects is a Danish architectural firm headquartered in Aarhus, with branch offices in Copenhagen, Malmö, Stockholm and Oslo. Arkitema Architects was founded in 1969 in Aarhus, and nowadays has about 400 employees with its main activity in Scandinavia. Arkitema Architects is owned by Danish engineering company Cowi. History The firm was founded in 1969 as Arkitektgruppen Aarhus by five students from the Aarhus School of Architecture after they won a competition for the design of an expansion of Køge Town Hall. They were Helge Tindal, Ole Nielsson, Michael Harrebæk, Eriling Stadager and Lars Due. Today Arkitema Architects has 14 partners. In 1990, Arkitektgruppen Aarhus won the Nykredit Architecture Prize. Sluseholmen Canal District
Sluseholmen Canal District (Danish: Sluseholmen Kanalby) is a residential development on the Sluseholmen peninsula in the South Harbour area of Copenhagen, Denmark. The development comprises 1,350 apartments on eight artificial islands, separated by dug-out canals. On each island is an enclosed block of four-to-seven stories, surrounding a sheltered courtyard with public access. The buildings often stand directly on the canals, while bridges, wharfs and "ghats" allow direct contact with the water. The development was designed by the Danish firm of architects Arkitema in collaboration with the Dutch architects Sjoerd Soeters, but to ensure a varied cityscape the facades of individual townhouses were designed by 20 different architecture practices. Aarhus City Tower
Aarhus City Tower (formerly HL Huset) is a building on Værkmestergade in Aarhus, Denmark and it is one of the tallest buildings in both the city and Denmark at large. At 94 meters it is the second tallest building in Aarhus after Aarhus Cathedral and, as of 2016, it is the fourth tallest building in Denmark. Aarhus City Tower is used as a Comwell hotel, offices and for conferences. Aarhus City Tower was built by the Danish businessman Hans Lorenzen through the contractor KPC with Rambøll as the engineer and Arkitema as the architect. The building is 25.000m² spread across 25 floors with an additional 13.000m² subterranean parking garage. CeresByen (English: ''CeresCity'') is a neighbourhood in Midtbyen, a district of the city of Aarhus, Denmark. It is a mixed residential and commercial area, comprising the site of the former Ceres Brewery operating here from 1856 until November 2008. The outer edges of CeresByen are defined by the streets ''Thorvaldsensgade'', ''Silkeborgvej'', ''Dollerupvej'' and ''Ceres Allé''. The neighbourhood is characterized by densely situated apartment buildings, high-rises, and an open public park along the Aarhus River. Architecturally, the area is modern while taking into account a few remaining and listed historic 19th century buildings of the former Ceres Brewery. Nykredit Architecture Prize
The Nykredit Architecture Prize is the largest Danish architecture prize. Founded by the Nykredit Foundation (an arm of the Nykredit Group), it is awarded annually to a person, or group of people, who have personally, or through their work, made a significant contribution to the building industry in the form of architecture or planning, etc. The recipient receives DKK 500,000, making it one of the largest architecture prizes in the world in terms of prize money. In 1991 the Nykredit Foundation began awarding the Motivational Award/Encouragement Prize to talented young architects who have made an impact on the architecture scene. Sluseholmen Canal Scene 2
Sluseholmen (literally "The Sluice Isle") is an artificial peninsula in the South Harbour of Copenhagen, Denmark. It takes its name from Slusen, a lock immediately to the south, regulating water levels in the harbor. Previously the site of heavy industry and part of the Southern Docklands of Port of Copenhagen, Sluseholmen has, since the turn of the millennium, undergone massive redevelopment, transforming it into a mainly residential district known for its canals and maritime atmosphere. Ørestad
Ørestad () is a developing city area in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the island of Amager. The area was developed using the new town concept, closely linked with the M1 line of the Copenhagen Metro. Economically, income for the plan would be generated by selling the public-owned, unused land for development, thus financing the construction of the metro, and contrarily, metro access was deemed necessary for making development attractive. While the metro is the primary public transport access, the area is also served by the Øresund Line between Copenhagen and Malmö, the motorway E20 and close to Copenhagen Airport. Ørestad was originally planned to consist of four districts, however only three are developed: Ørestad Nord, the unbuilt Amager Fælled area (which will remain a nature reserve), Ørestad City and Ørestad Syd. Køge Town Hall
Køge Town Hall is located in the central town square of Køge, Denmark. The building dates from the 16th century but was adapted in the Neoclassical style in 1903. History The town hall was built in about 1552 when the citizens of Køge were granted permission from Christian III to use building materials from the abandoned Greyfriers monastery in Vestergade for the construction of a town hall on condition that it contained granary and custom office. It was built in the Renaissance style and had a frieze with reliefs from Statius von Düren's workshop in Lübeck under the windows on the first floor. The town hall was extended northwards in 1570. It was completely rebuilt in 1903. It was listed in 1918. Amerika Plads
Amerika Plads ( lit. "America Square") is a public square and surrounding neighbourhood in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the result of a redevelopment of an area in the southern part of the former Freeport of Copenhagen into a mixed-use neighbourhood which consists of dwellings, offices and retail establishments, combining converted historic buildings and modern architecture. The former Free Port Station building was put in storage during the redevelopment and is now located in the middle of the square where it serves as a café. The area is to the west bounded by Kalkbrænderihavnsgade, part of a major thoroughfare, and to the east by Dampfærgevej connected to Kalkbrænderihavnsgade in both ends and separating Amerika Plads from America Quay, the western quay of the Southern Free Port dock. Christianshavn
Christianshavn (literally, "ingChristian's Harbour") is a neighbourhood in Copenhagen, Denmark. Part of the Indre By District, it is located on several artificial islands between the islands of Zealand and Amager and separated from the rest of the city centre by the Inner Harbour. It was founded in the early 17th century by Christian IV as part of his extension of the fortifications of Copenhagen. Hellerup
Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most urban part of the district is centred on Strandvejen and is bordered by Østerbro to the south and the Øresund to the east. It comprises Tuborg Havn, the redeveloped brewery site of Tuborg Breweries, with the Waterfront Shopping Center, a marina and the headquarters of several large companies.
