Arkansas County
Arkansas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 19,019. Located in the Arkansas Delta, the county has two county seats, DeWitt and Stuttgart. The first of the state's 75 present-day counties to be created, Arkansas County was formed on December 13, 1813, when this area was part of the Missouri Territory. The county was named after the Arkansas River (itself named for the Arkansas tribe), as was the subsequent Arkansas Territory. This was later split off from Missouri Territory and eventually admitted to the union as a state. The riverfront areas in the Arkansas Delta were developed for cotton plantations, based on the use of enslaved African Americans. Cotton was the major commodity crop before and after the Civil War. Arkansas County Courthouse-Southern District
The Arkansas County Courthouse for the Southern District is located at Courthouse Square in the center of De Witt, Arkansas, the seat for the southern county of Arkansas County. It is a three-story brick building with Art Deco styling, designed by Little Rock architect H. Ray Burks and built in 1931. It is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the state. It is built in the shape of an H, with vault additions made in 1971 the only asymmetrical element. Its main entry (on the western facade) is a simple double-leaf entry with transom window, topped by a concrete panel with floral design. This is topped by a pair of large windows, with a concrete panel with signage and clock above and a raised parapet at the top. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Arkansas County Courthouse-Northern District
The Arkansas County Courthouse for the Northern District is located at East 3rd and College Streets in Stuttgart, Arkansas, the seat of the northern district of Arkansas County. It is a two-story Classical Revival brick structure resting on a raised basement. It was designed by J. B. Barrett of the Stuttgart firm Barrett & Ogletree, and built in 1928, in response to the designation of rapidly growing Stuttgart as the seat of the northern district of the county. The building is an excellent local example of Classical Revival styling, with main entrances on its northern and eastern facades topped by broad pediments and entablatures, with a stepped brick parapet above. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Stuttgart, Arkansas
Stuttgart is a city in and the county seat of the northern district of Arkansas County, Arkansas, United States. Established by German settlers, it was named for its larger German counterpart. Known as the "Rice and Duck Capital of the World", the city is an international destination for waterfowl hunting along the Mississippi Flyway. Stuttgart is the most important city on the Arkansas Grand Prairie, a region known for rice cultivation. The economy is largely based on agricultural production, waterfowl tourism, and supporting industries. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 9,326. It is located on U.S. Route 165, approximately southeast of Little Rock; and on U.S. Route 79 approximately 110 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee. Arkansas Delta
The Arkansas Delta is one of the six natural regions of the state of Arkansas. Willard B. Gatewood Jr., author of ''The Arkansas Delta: Land of Paradox'', says that rich cotton lands of the Arkansas Delta make that area "The Deepest of the Deep South." The region runs along the Mississippi River from Eudora north to Blytheville and as far west as Little Rock. It is part of the Mississippi embayment, itself part of the Mississippi River Alluvial Plain. The flat plain is bisected by Crowley's Ridge, a narrow band of rolling hills rising above the flat delta plains. Several towns and cities have been developed along Crowley's Ridge, including Jonesboro. The region's lower western border follows the Arkansas River just outside Little Rock down through Pine Bluff. Idaho County, Idaho
Idaho County is a county in the U.S. state of Idaho, and the largest by area in the state. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,541. The county seat is Grangeville. Previous county seats of the area were Florence (1864–68), Washington (1868–75), and Mount Idaho (1875–1902). History Idaho County's oldest non-native settlements are ghost towns. Discovery of gold occurred in succession at Elk City, Newsome, and Florence during the spring and summer of 1861. Iowa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,662. The county seat is Marengo. Iowa County is one of seven counties in the United States to share the same name as the state they are located in.
