Arjan Stroetinga (born 26 June 1981) is a Dutch former professional speed skater. Oosterwolde, Friesland
Oosterwolde ( fry, Easterwâlde) is the largest town in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. The town was first mentioned between 1325 and 1336 as "tot Oesterwolde", and means eastern forest. Oosterwolde developed between two ''brinks'' (communal pastures). The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1735 as a replacement of a medieval church. Oosterwolde was home to 548 people in 1840. In 1886, Oosterwolde became the capital of the municipality of Ooststellingwerf. In 1887, Frico (nowadays: FrieslandCampina) opened a dairy factory in the village. KNSB Dutch Marathon Championships
The Dutch Marathon Championships is a speed skating event composed of two championships. One on natural ice and one on artificial ice. Natural ice The championship was skated for the first time in 1979. In the next 33 years the championship could be organized only 13 times. The last edition was skated in 2012 at the Grote Rietplas in Emmen. The skating event is held each winter season (if possible) and it is possible for the event to take place twice in the same year. Dries van Wijhe and Jorrit Bergsma are the only male skaters who have won the championships twice. Alida Pasveer is the only female skater to win twice. One skater, Rudi Groenendal won the veteran's championship three times. Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Types of speed skating are long track speed skating, short track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships
The World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships are a series of speed skating competitions organised by the International Skating Union. History Since the late 19th century, speed skating championships were always decided by racing multiple distances – four different distances for the Allround Championships, and two different distances (which have to be skated twice) for Sprint Championships. However, the speed skating events at the Olympic Games were always individual distances, no medals are awarded for a combined event (the only exception being the 1924 Winter Olympics). Towards the end of the 20th century, skaters started to specialize and it became rare that a skater was able to dominate both the short and the long distances. Perhaps the last skater able to do so was Eric Heiden, who won all five distances at the 1980 Winter Olympics.
