Swamp Thing (song)
"Swamp Thing" is a song by British electronic music group the Grid. It was released on 23 May 1994 as a single and is included on the Grid's third album, '' Evolver'' (1994). It peaked at number three on the UK, Australian, and Danish singles charts and reached the top five in an additional seven countries, including Finland and Norway, where it reached number two. The song was later sampled in " Banjo Thing" by Infernal and "Swamp Thing" by Pegboard Nerds. ''NME'' magazine ranked it number 41 in their list of the 50 best songs of 1994. Content "Swamp Thing" is almost completely instrumental, consisting mainly of: drums, synthesizer sounds and banjo. The only vocals are ''Well alright, watch out'', ''Feel alright'' and ''I just dig it'', sampled from the 1973 reggae song "Papa Do It Sweet" by Lloyd & Patsy. The Grid is an English electronic dance group, consisting of David Ball (formerly of Soft Cell) and Richard Norris, with guest contributions from other musicians. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is a professional darts organisation in the United Kingdom, established in 1992 when a group of leading players split from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to form what was initially called the World Darts Council (WDC). Sports promoter Eddie Hearn is the PDC chairman. 2003 PDC World Darts Championship
The 2003 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship was the tenth World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it split from the British Darts Organisation in 1993. The tournament took place between 27 December 2002 and 4 January 2003 at the Circus Tavern, Purfleet, England. Ladbrokes (who sponsored the 1996 event with their Vernon's brand) and took over sponsorship of the event from Skol. The field at the televised stages expanded for the first time since 1999. An extra qualifying round was introduced increasing the total number of players from 32 to 40. John Part defeated the defending champion and number one seed, Phil Taylor (darts player), Phil Taylor, in the final to end two incredible runs by Taylor – eight successive World titles, and 44 successive victories at the Circus Tavern. Shayne Burgess
Shayne Burgess (born 1 June 1964) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tournaments. He is known for his unorthodox throwing action, where he draws the point of the dart up close to his eyeball before releasing. Career Early career Burgess reached the quarter finals of the British Open in 1992 and the quarter-finals of the Winmau World Masters in 1993. Burgess switched to the PDC (then known as the WDC), and reached the semi finals of the 1994 World Matchplay in his first televised event in the WDC. Peak years He reached the semi finals of the 1999 PDC World Championship, when he lost a 4-5 in to Peter Manley, and the quarter finals of the 2000 PDC World Championship.
