Somdet Phra Sangharaja Chao Krommaluang Jinavaralongkorn (Vasana Vāsano) ( th, สมเด็จพระสังฆราชเจ้า กรมหลวงชินวราลงกรณ (วาสน์ วาสโน)), or Ariyavangsagatayana VIII (Vasana Vāsano) was the 18th Supreme Patriarch of Thailand 1973–1988 (Thai Calendar 2517–2531). He was born 1897 (2440) within the Ayutthaya province as Vasana Nilprapha ( th, วาสน์ นิลประภา). His dharma name in Pali was Vasano ( th, วาสโน). Wat Ratchabophit
Wat Ratchabophit () or formally Wat Ratchabophit Sathitmahasimaram Ratchaworawihan ( th, วัดราชบพิธสถิตมหาสีมารามราชวรวิหาร), is a Buddhist temple on Atsadang Road, Bangkok, along Khlong Khu Mueang Doem, not far from Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. The temple was built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). The abbot of the temple is Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana, the current Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. Architecture Inside the temple The temple features a unique layout, with its and joined by a circular courtyard, at the center of which stands a gilded chedi. The golden '' chedi'' (43m high) is covered with orange-coloured tiles and on top of the chedi, there is a golden ball. Dharma Name
A Dharma name or Dhamma name is a new name acquired during both lay and monastic Buddhist initiation rituals in Mahayana Buddhism and monastic ordination in Theravada Buddhism (where it is more proper to call it Dhamma or Sangha name). The name is traditionally given by a Buddhist monastic, and is given to newly ordained monks, nuns and laity. Dharma names are considered aspirational, not descriptive. Most of the well-known Buddhist teachers are known to have had many different Dharma names in the course of their careers, and often each name represents a stage of their career. For example, Prince Shotoku was also known as Prince Umayado and Prince Kamitsumiya. Shinran's original name was Matsuwakamaru; he was also known as Hanen, Shakku, Zenshin, Gutoku Shinran and Kenshin Daeshi. Vajirañāṇasaṃvara
Somdet Phra Sangharaja Chao Krommaluang Vajirañāṇasaṃvara ( th, สมเด็จพระสังฆราชเจ้า กรมหลวงวชิรญาณสังวร; ; 3 October 1913 – 24 October 2013), né Charoen Khachawat ( th, เจริญ คชวัตร) and dharma name Suvaḍḍhano ( th, สุวฑฺฒโน), was the 19th Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. He was appointed to the position in 1989 by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. He turned 100 in October 2013, and died later the same month.
