Arena Theatre
Arena Theatre ( sk, Divadlo Aréna) is one of the oldest theatres in Bratislava. It was established in 1828 on the right bank of Danube. In the beginning it served as an open summer amphitheatre, hence the name Arena. The current building was built in 1898. From its establishment till the end of the Second World War, many Hungarian, Austrian and German theatre companies performed there. After the war, the theatre was gradually closed and served as a storehouse for state-owned Slovak Television. The theatre was revived by a group of people around mime artist Milan Sládek, opening performance took place in 1997. The repertoire consisted of several pantomimic performances, an annual pantomimic festival took place there. In 2003, renowned Slovak actor Juraj Kukura became managing director and focus of the theatre shifted to drama. Juraj Kukura
Juraj Kukura (born 15 March 1947, in Prešov) is a Slovak actor. Kukura studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU). Since 1985, when he emigrated to West Germany, his films were banned in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic until Communist ruled ended through the Velvet Revolution of 1989. Thanks to his charismatic personality he usually portrayed strong, leading characters. In 2004, he received DOSKY Award for performing ''Martin'' in ''The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?'' by Edward Albee. In 2003 he became managing director of Arena Theatre. Jozef Tiso
Jozef Gašpar Tiso (; hu, Tiszó József; 13 October 1887 – 18 April 1947) was a Slovak politician and Roman Catholic priest who served as president of the Slovak Republic, a client state of Nazi Germany during World War II, from 1939 to 1945. In 1947, after the war, he was executed for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Bratislava. Born in 1887 to Slovak parents in Nagybiccse (today Bytča), then part of Hungary, Austria-Hungary, Tiso studied several languages during his school career, including Hebrew and German. He was introduced to priesthood from an early age, and helped combat local poverty and alcoholism in what is now Slovakia. Marián Labuda
Marián Labuda (28 October 1944 – 5 January 2018) was a Slovak actor. He was born in Hontianske Nemce. In 1964, he graduated from the ''Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava'' (VŠMU). He became a member of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) in Bratislava. In 1967, he moved to the theatre ''Divadlo na Korze'' in the same city. Following its closure in 1971 he joined ''Nová scéna'' in Bratislava. In 1990, he returned to SND. He portrayed more than a hundred characters on stage. He also regularly appeared in both Slovak and Czech films. As a singer, he recorded the album Silvester 68 with several well-known personalities in Slovakia. The song "Pichni" from the album was written and sung by himself. Labuda died in Bratislava on 5 January 2018, aged 73. Emília Vášáryová, Doctor Artis Dramaticae (hon.) (; born 18 May 1942) is a Slovak stage and screen actress, referred to as the "First Lady of Slovak Theater". During her over five decades long career, she has received numerous awards including the Meritorious Artist (1978), Alfréd Radok Award (1996), Czech Lion Award Golden Goblet Award (2008), and most recently the honorary degree Doctor Artis Dramaticae Honoris Causa (2010) as the only female to date, and ELSA (2010). The Drama Club (Czech: ''Činoherní klub'') is a theatre located in Prague. The Drama Club was founded by Ladislav Smoček and Jaroslav Vostrý. The opening performance of ''Piknik'' took place on 3 March 1965. The Goat Or Who Is Sylvia?
''The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?'' is a full-length play written in 2000 by Edward Albee which opened on Broadway in 2002. It won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Play, the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, and was a finalist for the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
