Archdale, North Carolina
Archdale is a city in Guilford and Randolph counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Located 15 miles southwest of Greensboro, it is part of the Greensboro-High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area of the Piedmont Triad metro region. The population was 11,415 at the 2010 census, up from 9,014 in 2000. Geography Archdale is located primarily in Randolph County and extends north into Guilford County; the geographic center of the city is at (35.903996, -79.966080). It is bordered to the southwest by the city of Trinity and to the north by the city of High Point. Interstate 85 passes through Archdale, with access from Exits 111 and 113. I-85 leads northeast to Greensboro and southwest to Charlotte. Interstate 74 passes just east of Archdale, leading northwest to Winston-Salem and southeast to Asheboro. Archdale (LYNX Station)
Archdale is a light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The elevated island platform is a stop along the Lynx Blue Line and serves Montclaire South and nearby Montclaire and Starmount neighborhoods. It also features a 432-space park and ride and local bus connections. Location The station is located at the intersection of Archdale Drive and Old Pineville Road. Surrounding it are three strip malls: Archdale Marketplace, Carriage Square, and Starmount Center; while to its west is the residential neighborhood of Montclaire South and nearby Archdale Park. History The station was part of the overall planning and construction of the LYNX Blue Line; starting in 1999, it was approved in February 2000 and construction began on February 26, 2005. Between April 5 through May 5, 2006, the Archdale viaduct was installed. Archdale Parkhill
Sir Robert Archdale "Archie" Parkhill (27 August 1878 – 2 October 1947) was an Australian politician who served in the House of Representatives from 1927 to 1937. He began his career in politics as a campaign director for the Commonwealth Liberal Party and Nationalist Party. He later joined the new United Australia Party in 1931, and served as a minister in the Lyons Government between 1932 and 1937. Early life Parkhill was born on 27 August 1878 in Paddington, New South Wales. He was the son of Isabella (née Chisholm) and Robert Parkhill, his father being a stonemason. He was educated at public schools in Paddington and Waverley before finding work as a clerk. In 1904, Parkhill was elected to the Waverley Municipal Council. In the same year, he was appointed secretary of the Liberal and Reform Association. He married Florence Ruth Watts on 9 May 1906.
