AquaDom
The AquaDom (mixed Latin and German: 'water dome', more formally 'water cathedral') was a cylindrical acrylic glass aquarium with built-in transparent elevator inside the Radisson Collection Hotel in the DomAquarée complex at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in Berlin-Mitte, Germany. The DomAquarée complex also contains offices, a museum, a restaurant, and the Berlin Sea Life Centre aquarium. On 16 December 2022, the AquaDom aquarium ruptured, destroying itself and propelling the 1,500 fish inside into nearby streets, killing the majority of them. Construction The AquaDom was opened on 2 December 2003 at a cost of about 12.8 million euros. The acrylic cylinder was manufactured by International Concept Management, Inc. using Reynolds Polymer Technology panels, with architecture drawings provided by Sergei Tchoban. Karl-Liebknecht-Straße
Karl-Liebknecht-Straße is a major street in the central Mitte district of the German capital Berlin. It is named after Karl Liebknecht (1871–1919), one of the founders of the Communist Party of Germany. The street connects the Unter den Linden boulevard with the Prenzlauer Allee arterial road leading to the northern city limits. Although part of the street dates back to medieval times, most of the buildings at its side were built in the 1960s, when East Berlin's centre was redesigned as the capital of East Germany. Sergei Tchoban (German: Sergej Tschoban; born 9 October 1962) is a German Architect and artist working in various cities in Europe. He is managing director of the architectural firm TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten and founder of the Tchoban Foundation, which has been based in the Museum for Architectural Drawing in Berlin, built for this purpose, since 2013. He is a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA) and the architectural associations in Hamburg and Berlin. The DDR Museum is a museum in the centre of Berlin. The museum is located in the former governmental district of East Germany, right on the river Spree, opposite the Berlin Cathedral. The museum is the 11th most visited museum in Berlin. Its exhibition depicts life in the former East Germany (known in German as the ' or ''DDR'') in a direct "hands-on" way. A seismometer is an instrument that responds to ground noises and shaking such as caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and explosions. They are usually combined with a timing device and a recording device to form a seismograph. The output of such a device—formerly recorded on paper (see picture) or film, now recorded and processed digitally—is a seismogram. Such data is used to locate and characterize earthquakes, and to study the Earth's internal structure.
