Aqqusinersuaq
Aqqusinersuaq is a major street in Nuuk, Greenland. The street runs through the City Centre with one lane in either direction. It begins at the Nuuk Port and Harbour heading south and turns north at Sipisaq Kujalleq and then northwest at 400-talik roundabout (where it meets Eqalugalinnguit) and ends when it meets HJ Rinksvej Aqqutaa. The road runs through Nuuk's business centre, and many of the city's major landmarks are located along or nearby the street such as Hotel Hans Egede, Nuuk's City Hall (Nuuk Rådhus), and the Bank of Greenland. Aqqusinersuaq also housed Blok P Blok P, in Nuuk, was the largest residential building in all of Greenland. It contained around 320 apartments and it is said that approximately 1% of the total population of the entire island lived in the building. Hotel Hans Egede
Hotel Hans Egede is a four-star hotel in Nuuk, Greenland. It is named after Hans Egede and is the largest hotel in Nuuk. The hotel is located on the main street, Aqqusinersuaq. It has 140 rooms and 10 apartments and is commonly used for conferences. There are two restaurants in the hotel, Restaurant Sarfalik and A Hereford Beefstouw. The hotel has one bar, the Skyline Bar, which is located on the top floor and which has a view over Nuuk. The hotel can accommodate conferences of up to 350 people. Blok P, in Nuuk, was the largest residential building in all of Greenland. It contained around 320 apartments and it is said that approximately 1% of the total population of the entire island lived in the building. The building was demolished on 19 October 2012. History The building was built and erected in 1965–1966 as part of the Danish parliament Folketinget's programme since 1953 to modernize and urbanize the Greenlandic infrastructure by moving people away from the coastal settlements which were deemed "unprofitable, unhealthy and unmodern". When it was built it was the largest building construction in the Kingdom of Denmark. The size and floor plan of the apartments were entirely unsuitable for the Inuit lifestyle, with narrow doorways making it difficult, or sometimes impossible to enter and exit wearing thick cold weather clothing, and common European style wardrobes were too small to store fishing gear.
