April In Paris (film)
''April in Paris'' is a 1952 American musical romantic comedy film directed by David Butler and starring Doris Day, Ray Bolger and Claude Dauphin. Plot Winthrop Putnam is the Assistant Secretary to the Assistant to the Undersecretary of State, and was formerly Assistant Assistant Secretary to the Assistant to the Undersecretary of State. Winthrop tells a Frenchman, Philippe Farquotte that owes back taxes, but Philippe is not allowed any help from his friends to get back home to Paris. Philippe ends up becoming an employee aboard a ship. Winthrop jumps onboard to give Ethel Jackson mistaken for Ethel Barrymore unhappy information that is was inadvertently told that she was to represent the American theatre at an art exposition in Paris. David Butler (director)
David Butler (December 17, 1894 – June 14, 1979) was an American actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, and television director. Biography Butler was born in San Francisco, California. His mother was actress Adele Belgrade, and his father was actor and director Fred J. Butler. His first acting roles were playing extras in stage plays. He later appeared in two D.W. Griffith films: ''The Girl Who Stayed Home'' and ''The Greatest Thing in Life''. He also appeared in the 1927 Academy-Award winning film ''7th Heaven (1927 film), 7th Heaven''. "Auprès de ma blonde" (French for "Next to My Girl") or "Le Prisonnier de Hollande" ("The Prisoner of Holland") is a popular chanson dating to the 17th century. The song tells the story of a woman who laments to the birds in her father's garden that her husband is a prisoner in Holland. It appeared during or soon after the Franco-Dutch War (1672–78), during the reign of Louis XIV, when French sailors and soldiers were commonly imprisoned in the Netherlands. Jarma Toy Lewis (June 5, 1931 – November 12, 1985) was an American film actress and model active in the 1950s. Biography Jarma Lewis came from a family of Anglo-Irish ancestry, attended Los Angeles City College. She first appeared in school theater productions and received her acting training at the Neighborhood Playhouse School in New York. In the early 1950s, she played her first film roles. Lewis worked as a receptionist at a Beverly Hills dentist's office and was discovered by director Henry Hathaway, who cast her to play Queen Guinevere in his knight film ''Prince Valiant''. She was subsequently employed as a starlet and up-and-coming actress at 20th Century Fox (1954) and MGM (1955-57). John Alvin (born John Alvin Hoffstadt, October 24, 1917 – February 27, 2009) was an American film, stage and television actor. He appeared in over 25 films for Warner Brothers and numerous television and theater roles throughout his career, which spanned from the 1940s to the 1990s. Early life Alvin was born in Chicago on October 24, 1917. His father was a surgeon while his mother was a professional opera singer. He had one brother. Alvin began to pursue acting while in high school. He moved from Illinois to California in 1939 in order to study at the Pasadena Playhouse.
