Appomattox Regional Library
Appomattox Regional Library system serves the city of Hopewell and Prince George and Dinwiddie counties in Virginia. The library system is within Region 2 of Virginia Library Association (VLA). Service area According to the FY 2014 Institute of Museum and Library Services Data Catalog, the Appomattox Regional Library System has a service area population of 86,625 with one central library and seven branch libraries. History The Appomattox Regional Library system started in 1930. Thomas B. Robertson created a library association. Hopewell city took over the library and hired Maude Langhorne Nelson to be the library's first librarian. The library was then called John Randolph library, now the United Virginia Bank. The library was then moved in 1957 to the Municipal Building, the name changed to Maude Langhorne Nelson Library. Hopewell, Virginia
Hopewell is an independent city surrounded by Prince George County and the Appomattox River in the Commonwealth of Virginia. At the 2020 census, the population was 23,033. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Hopewell with Prince George County for statistical purposes. Hopewell is in the Tri-Cities area of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). History City Point The city was founded to take advantage of its site overlooking the James and Appomattox Rivers. City Point, the oldest part of Hopewell, was established in 1613 by Sir Thomas Dale. It was first known as " Bermuda City," which was changed to Charles City, lengthened to Charles City Point, and later abbreviated to City Point. (At this time, Bermuda, the Atlantic archipelago, was considered part of the Colony of Virginia and appeared on its maps.) Prince George is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Prince George County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 2,066. It is in the metro area of Richmond, Virginia. The elevation is at 131 feet. The Prince George County Courthouse Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
