''Appearances Are Deceptive'' (In Spanish: ''Las apariencias engañan'') is a 1983 Mexican Drama film directed by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo and starred by Isela Vega, Gonzalo Vega and Manuel Ojeda. Plot Rogelio (Gonzalo Vega), a little experienced actor, is located in Mexico City by the architect Sergio ( Manuel Ojeda). Sergio contracts his services of actor to travel to Aguascalientes and to pretend to be Adrián, the disappeared son of Don Alberto (Ignacio Retes), an old and paraplegic man that lives prostrate in a wheelchair. Don Alberto is taken care of by Adriana ( Isela Vega), a distant niece who one day appeared suddenly in his house. Sergio and Adriana are engaged and have plans to get married and have a long honeymoon trip. For this, they hire Rogelio, because they need to keep Don Alberto company in their absence. Jaime Humberto Hermosillo
Jaime Humberto Hermosillo Delgado (22 January 1942 – 13 January 2020) was a Mexican film director, often compared to Spain's Pedro Almodóvar. Born in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, in central Mexico, Hermosillo's films often explore the hypocrisy of middle-class Mexican values. He worked with Gabriel García Márquez on ''Mary My Dearest'' (1979) and ''The Summer of Miss Forbes'' (1988). His film ''Homework (1991 film), Homework'' (1991) was entered into the 17th Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Special Mention. At the time of his death Hermosillo was teaching film-making at the University of Guadalajara and had recently collaborated with his students on several projects. Salvador Pineda Popoca (born June 16, 1952 in Huetamo, Michoacan, Mexico) is a Mexican actor, who has participated in over 20 Mexican telenovelas and Mexican movies, as well as two Hollywood low budget movies. Born to Mexican politician Salvador Pineda who served under Mexican President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, and Gloria Pineda, house-wife.
