Apparat Organ Quartet
Apparat Organ Quartet was founded in 1999 in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is a band that originally included the musicians Hörður Bragason, Músikvatur, Úlfur Eldjárn and Jóhann Jóhannsson. They were soon joined by drummer Þorvaldur Gröndal, replaced in 2001 by Arnar Geir Ómarsson, drummer of the Icelandic rock band HAM. Lacking the time to dedicate himself to the group because of his solo projects, Jóhann Jóhannsson left the band in 2012; he died in February 2018. History The band was originally conceived by Jóhann Jóhannsson as a collaborative project for a concert series curated by Kitchen Motors, a record label and art collective founded by Jóhannsson, Hilmar Jensson and Kristín Björk Kristjánsdóttir. Iceland Airwaves
Iceland Airwaves is a music festival annually held in early November in Reykjavík, Iceland. The festival spans four days (Wednesday - Saturday) and its main focus is showcasing new music, both Icelandic and international. The festival's main sponsors are Icelandair and the City of Reykjavík. Festival The first show was held in 1999 as a one-off event in an airplane hangar at Reykjavík Airport. Iceland Airwaves is promoted and produced by Iceland Music Export and is sponsored by its founder Icelandair, in cooperation with the City of Reykjavik. Hilmar Jensson
Hilmar Jensson (born 1966) is an Icelandic guitarist. Biography Jensson picked up the guitar at a young age. He studied at the FIH music school in Iceland from 1982 and then in 1991 attended the Berklee College of Music, in Boston. During this time he took in private lessons with Mick Goodrick, Jerry Bergonzi, and Hal Crook. He then returned to Iceland, but from 1993 to 1994 he studied with Joe Lovano in New York. As sideman he has collaborated with Tim Berne, Wadada Leo Smith, Kevin Drumm, Herb Robertson, Trevor Dunn, Greg Bendian, Chris Speed, Briggan Krauss, Jamie Saft, Cuong Vu, Rafael Toral, Carlos Zingaro, Tom Rainey, Ben Perowsky, Per Jørgensen, Eyvind Kang, Arve Henriksen and Ståle Storløkken, among others. ''Screaming Masterpiece'' (''Gargandi snilld'' in Icelandic) is a 2005 documentary film directed and written by Ari Alexander Ergis Magnússon about the music scene in Iceland. It attempts to explore the reasons why Iceland has such a rich variety of musical talent.
