Apostolos Parellis
Apostolos Parellis ( el, Απόστολος Παρέλλης,born July 24, 1985) is a Cypriot track and field athlete specializing in discus throw. He is the current Cypriot national record holder with since October 2019. Parellis competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London narrowly missing a spot in the final after finishing 13th overall with an attempt of 63.48m., just seven centimetres shy of the 12th position that gave the ticket to the final. In the 2015 Athletics World Championships in Beijing, Apostolos clinched 6th spot in the world with a 64.55m. throw. Since breaking the National Record in 2007 for the first time (57.81m.) at the age of 22, Parellis has been the islands top discus thrower, improving his personal best another eleven times. 2011 Games Of The Small States Of Europe
The 14th Games of the Small States of Europe, also known as the XIVth Games of the Small States of Europe were held between 30 May – 4 June 2011 in multiple municipalities in Liechtenstein. The Games featured competition by the 9 members of the GSSE in nine sports, with three of the sports featuring seven disciplines. Events were located in nine different municipalities in the country. Liechtenstein was not opposed in their bid for the 2011 Games, possibly because it was the country's turn to host the Games based on the event's rotation. Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. 2009 European Team Championships
The first European Athletics Team Championships took place on 20 and 21 June 2009. The third European Team Championships, took place on 18 and 19 June 2011. The Competition was divided between four divisions, with results determining promotion and relegation between them. 2008 European Cup (athletics)
The 29th and final SPAR European Cup took place in June 2008. Track and field events were held on 21 and 22 June 2008 at the Parc des Sports Stadium in Annecy, France. Other event venues included Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Portugal and facilities in Istanbul, Turkey (for First League track and field events), Kadriorg Stadium in Estonia and SNP Stadium in Slovakia (for Second League track and field events), and facilities in Eindhoven, Netherlands (for diving and other water sports events). European Athletics Team Championships
The European Athletics Team Championships (European Team Championships until 2013), is an international athletics competition organised by European Athletics, between different countries of Europe, over 4 leagues. It replaced in 2009 the former and similar European Cup (1965-2008). Unlike most international competitions, medals are not awarded to individuals in individual events but to the overall winning team on a points system. History The main idea of the cup, developed by Bruno Zauli, president of the European Committee of the International Association of Athletics Federations, was to create a competition for all European athletics federations, in which they would face each other in track and field events.
