Apifo'ou College
‘Apifo’ou College (Tongan language, Tongan: Kolisi ‘Apifo’ou) is a co-educational secondary school located at Ma’ufanga on the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga. It is the largest and oldest Catholic Church, Catholic secondary school in Tonga. It is owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga, Roman Catholic Diocese of Tonga and Niue, and is run by priests of the Society of Mary (Marists), Society of Mary. History ‘Apifo’ou College traces its foundation to 1865 when French Marist priest, Fr Jean-Amand Lamaze, founded an all-boys secondary school named St Stanislaus College at ‘Ahopanilolo, Ma’ufanga with a syllabus that included reading, writing, geography, history, arithmetic, astronomy, geometry and religious education. Tongan (English pronunciation: or ; ') is an Austronesian language of the Polynesian branch native to the island nation of Tonga. It has around 187,000 speakers. It uses the word order verb–subject–object. Related languages Tongan is one of the multiple languages in the Polynesian branch of the Austronesian languages, along with Hawaiian, Māori, Samoan and Tahitian, for example. Feleti Vakaʻuta Sevele, Lord Sevele of Vailahi (born 7 July 1944) was the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga from 30 March 2006 to 22 December 2010. Biography Early life Lord Sevele was born in Ma’ufanga, Nuku’alofa. He began his high school education at Apifo'ou College in Tonga, then went to school in Fiji at St John's College in Levuka on the island of Ovalau, and the Marist Brothers High School, Suva. Shannon Michael Frizell (born 11 February 1994) is a Tongan born New Zealand rugby union player. His position of choice is flanker. Early life Frizell was born and raised in Folaha, Tonga and started his childhood playing football for Folaha Football Club. His adoptive brother, Tyson Frizell, plays in the National Rugby League. Mana Otai
K. Manakaetau F. 'Otai (born 21 September 1968) is coach of the Tonga national team (''ʻIkale Tahi'' (''Sea Eagles'')). He was educated at St Peter's College, Auckland and played club rugby in Auckland. His playing position was as flanker (No 8). Otai represented Tonga, being capped for the first time on 11 February 1995 against Japan at Nagoya. Otai was the Tongan team captain in the 1995 Rugby World Cup competition, in which he scored a try. Otai was an All Black trialist in 1994.
