Aoife Murray
Aoife Murray (born 1984 in Dunmanway) is a Camogie player and quantity surveyor based in Cork, winner of All Ireland medals in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018. All Star awards in 2004, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017. Minor, Junior, Intermediate as well as her Senior All-Ireland medals and Munster championship honours in all grades. Won three county Senior championship medals with Cloughduv and was captain in 2005 for their third county title. Sister of former Cork Senior hurler, Kevin Murray, who won an All- Ireland medal in 1999. A series of impressive saves in the 2009 All Ireland final won for her the "player of the match" award from RTÉ. Kilmichael, County Cork
Kilmichael () is a village and civil parish in the barony of West Muskerry, County Cork, Ireland. Kilmichael P.O. is located on an early map (1897-1913) at the Cooldorragha Cross Roads. Kilmicheal is part of the Cork North-West (Dáil constituency). Kilmichael Ambush The Kilmichael Ambush took place near the village during the Irish War of Independence. The actual fight took place in the townlands of Haremount (''Cnocán an Ghiorria'' in Irish) and Shanacashel (''Seanchaiseal''). The Kilmichael Ambush site is marked by a monument which is approximately south of the village. Schools The local national school, Dromleigh National School, is one of the oldest in Ireland and celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2015. Cloughduv GAA
Cloughduv GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Cloughduv in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Muskerry division of Cork GAA. The club fields hurling team only. There are two Gaelic football clubs in the parish (Kilmurry parish) - Canovee and Kilmurry - and there is often an overlap of players between the different clubs. History Hurling in the area pre-dates the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Thurles in 1884; when the Cork County Board was inaugurated in 1886, 21 clubs attended including Ryecourt GAA represented by Michael J Keane. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to Cloch Dubh. Success was not long in arriving, culminating in 1912 in a great victory in the County Senior Beamish Shield. Dunmanway
Dunmanway (, official Irish name: ) is a market town in County Cork, in the southwest of Ireland. It is the geographical centre of the region known as West Cork. It is the birthplace of Sam Maguire, an Irish Protestant republican, for whom the trophy of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is named. There is disagreement over the meaning and origin of the town's name. Various sources list its meaning when translated from Irish as "the castle of the yellow river," "the castle on the little plain," "the fort of the gables (or pinnacles)," and "the fort of the yellow women." All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship is a competition for inter-county teams in the women's field sport of game of camogie played in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Camogie Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Camogie Final being played on the second Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin. The prize for the winning team is the O'Duffy Cup. The men's equivalent tournament is the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Participants The county is a geographical region in Ireland, and each county organises its own camogie affairs. The 2009 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship—known as the Gala All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship for sponsorship reasons— is the high point of the 2009 season in the sport of camogie. It commenced on 20 June 2009 and ended with the final on 13 September 2009. Eight teams competed in the Senior Championship out of twenty-seven who competed overall in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships. Camogie All Stars
The Camogie All Star Awards are awarded each November to 15 players who have made outstanding contributions to the Irish stick and ball team sport of camogie in the 15 traditional positions on the field: goalkeeper, three full backs, three half-backs, two midfields, three half-forwards and three full-forwards. They were awarded for the first time in 2003 as an independent initiative sponsored by a hotel group and accorded official status by the Camogie Association in 2004. In 2004 a team of the century was also chosen to commemorate the centenary of the sport. O'Neill's are the present title sponsors of the awards. The O'Duffy Cup ( ga, Corn Uí Dúbhthaigh) is the prize presented to the winners of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship.
