António Maria Lisboa
António Maria Lisboa (1 August 1928 – 11 November 1953) was a Portuguese surrealist poet. Life Antônio Maria Lisboa was born on 1 August 1928 in Lisbon. He studied. at the ''Ensino Téchnico''. He formed a small surrealist group in 1947 with Pedro Oom and Henrique Risques Pereira. Mário Cesariny de Vasconcelos, João Artur da Silva and Figueiredo Sobral were also members of this group. He became a lasting friend of Cesariny. The two poets wrote ''Afixação Proibida'' (Display Prohibited), an important manifesto of Portuguese surrealism which initiated the movement in Portugal. Lisboa and Cesariny became the two leading surrealist poets in Portugal. Lisboa spent two months in Paris starting in March 1949. Mário Cesariny De Vasconcelos
Mário Cesariny de Vasconcelos or Mário Cesariny (August 9, 1923 – November 26, 2006) was a Portuguese surrealist poet and painter. He published several major works of poetry during a career spanning 50 years. Cesariny was also a painter, but his work became more centered on poetry in the 1950s. Early life Mário Cesariny was born in Lisbon, Portugal, the youngest child and only son of Viriato de Vasconcelos and María de las Mercedes Cesariny, a Spaniard of French but originally Italian ancestry. Education Mário Cesariny studied in the prestigious Escola de Artes Decorativas António Arroio and also studied music with the composer Fernando Lopes Graça. Later he joined the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, where he met André Breton in 1947. João Artur Da Silva
João Artur da Silva is a Portuguese born artist and photographer currently living in British Columbia, Canada. Biography João Artur Cordeiro Da Silva was born October 5th, 1928 in Cascais, Portugal to Alfredo Lopes Da Silva, a businessman, and Georgina Cordeiro, the first female sculptor in the Lisbon Arts Academy. At age 18, instead of joining his father's business, João Artur began drawing and painting. In the late 1940's, after participating in a number of collective art shows in Lisbon, he was introduced to Mario Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas and Antonio Maria Lisboa of the Lisbon Surrealist Group (Os Surrealistas) by Mario-Henrique Leiria. Figueiredo Sobral
Figueiredo Sobral (1926 – 13 August 2010) was a Portuguese painter, sculptor and poet. His monumental sculptures and murals are displayed in public spaces in Portugal and Brazil. His work is held in many public and private collections. Life Jose Maria Figueiredo Sobral was born in Lisbon in 1926. He graduated from the Antonio Arroio Decorative Arts School ('' Escola Secundária Artística António Arroio'') where he studied under Lino António, Paula Campos and Rodrigues Alves. Sobral worked in a range of media including painting, graphic design, illustration, scenography and poetry. His paintings were first shown publicly at the General Exhibitions of Fine Arts (SNBA, Lisbon) immediately after World War II (1939–45). He joined the Portuguese surrealist group formed by Antônio Maria Lisboa and Cesariny Vasconcelos. His first individual exhibition was in Castelo de Vide in 1952.
