Antwerpse Basketball Club was a professional basketball club based in the city of Antwerp, Belgium. History Antwerpse founded in 1910 and became a very successful club in Belgian basketball mostly from the mid-'50s to the mid-'70s. In this time the club won eight titles of BLB. In 1972 the club changed its official name to Racing Basket Antwerpen. In the next season (1973–74) it adopted for sponsorship reasons the name Racing Ford Antwerpen, and then Racing Thorens Antwerpen. In 1975 the club merged with various Antwerp clubs such as Zaziko, Brabo, Tunnel and other teams which formed a new club with the name Sobabee. Finally in 1995 Sobabee merged with the other legendary club of Belgian basketball, Racing Mechelen, and created a new club based in Antwerp which now is known as Antwerp Giants. Basketball League Belgium Division I
The Pro Basketball League (PBL), was the highest tier level professional basketball league in Belgium for clubs. In 2021, the league was succeeded by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. Through 2014, for sponsorship reasons, the league was previously known as the Ethias League, and from 2014 to 2016, it was known as the Scoore! League, also for sponsorship reasons. The league is organized by the Basketball League Belgium. The current president of the league is Maarten Bostyn. Antwerp Giants, named Telenet Giants Antwerp for sponsorship reasons, are a Belgian professional basketball club based in Antwerp. Their home arena is Lotto Arena. The club plays in the BNXT League, the highest tier of Belgian basketball. The club was created from the merger of Sobabee and Racing Mechelen. Then named Racing Basket Antwerpen, it was renamed Antwerp Giants in 2005. Antwerp has won the Belgian championship once, in 2000. The team has won four Belgian Cups, in 2000, 2007, 2019 and 2020. History In 1995, Sobabee from Antwerp and Racing Mechelen merged into ''Racing Basket Antwerpen''. The club made its debut on the highest stage in Belgium in the 1998–99 season. The Belgian Basketball Cup (Dutch: Beker van België), for sponsorship reasons the EuroMillions Cup, is the top tier national basketball cup competition in Belgium. The tournament is played in a knock-out format, in which teams are drawn against each other. Oostende is the most successful club in the competition's history, as it won 19 titles.
