Antonín Sochor
Major general Antonín Sochor (16 July 1914 – 16 August 1950) was a Czechoslovak general who fought for the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps in the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front (World War II), Eastern Front. Biography Early life Antonín Sochor was born in the mining town of Dinslaken-Lohberg, Lohberg into the family of a Czech miner. Sochor could not complete the business academy in Teplice and in 1933 he became a laborer. In October 1936 he began full-time military service in Trenčín. Two years later, he graduated from the non-commissioned officer school there. He was mobilized to serve in Slovakia and remained in the army as a long-serving non-commissioned officer. After the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia and the creation of the Protectorate, he returned to Duchcov, but was arrested there after a conflict with the Sudeten German Party. Lohberg is one of seven subdivisions of Dinslaken, a city located at the northwestern margin of the Ruhr area. Lohberg is mainly known for its now closed Coal mining, coal mine ''Zeche Lohberg''. History Lohberg was built between 1907 and 1924 based on the architectural concept of a Garden city movement, garden city in order to accommodate the miners and other employees of the ''Zeche Lohberg''. The Order of the Crown of Romania is a chivalric order set up on 14 March 1881 by King Carol I of Romania to commemorate the establishment of the Kingdom of Romania. It was awarded as a state order until the end of the Romanian monarchy in 1947. It was revived on 30 December 2011 as a dynastic order. The Order of the Star of Romania (Romanian: ''Ordinul Steaua României'') is Romania's highest civil Order and second highest State decoration after the defunct Order of Michael the Brave. The War Order of Virtuti Militari (Latin: ''"For Military Virtue"'', pl, Order Wojenny Virtuti Militari) is Poland's highest military decoration for heroism and courage in the face of the enemy at war. It was created in 1792 by Polish King Stanislaus II Augustus and is the oldest military decoration in the world still in use. It is awarded in five classes either for personal heroism or, to commanders, for leadership. Some of the heroic actions recognized by an award of the Virtuti Militari are equivalent to those meriting the British Victoria Cross, the German Iron Cross, and the American Medal of Honor. The Order of the Red Banner (russian: Орден Красного Знамени, Orden Krasnogo Znameni) was the first Soviet military decoration. The Order was established on 16 September 1918, during the Russian Civil War by decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee. It was the highest award of Soviet Russia, subsequently the Soviet Union, until the Order of Lenin was established in 1930. Recipients were recognised for extraordinary heroism, dedication, and courage demonstrated on the battlefield. The Order was awarded to individuals as well as to military units, cities, ships, political and social organizations, and state enterprises.
