Antonio Roldán Betancur
Antonio Roldan Betancur (1946-July 4, 1989) was a Colombian politician. He was once the governor of the department of Antioquia, from 1988 until his death in 1989. Roldan Betancur was also a medical doctor and a community sports leader. Death Roman Betancur was killed by a car bomb when he was aboard an official car on the way to his office on 4 July, 1989. According to investigations, the car that blew up was not his, but a car that was next to his. Along him, five others died, including two policemen, a young psychology student, a train worker and a councilman. Investigations It was discovered that Roldan Betancur was not the main target of the assassination plot, that being Antioquian police commander Waldemar Franklin Quintero, who was killed one month later. The Colombian police believed the Cali Cartel to be involved in his assassination. A car bomb, bus bomb, lorry bomb, or truck bomb, also known as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), is an improvised explosive device designed to be detonated in an automobile or other vehicles. Colonel Valdemar Franklin Quintero (January 26, 1941 – August 18, 1989) was the commander of the Colombian National Police in ''Antioquia Province''. Franklin had led several major raids which resulted in the seizure of multiple tons of cocaine. He was murdered by the Medellín cartel in Medellín because of these drug seizures and his refusal to talk with the cartel. The Cali Cartel ( es, Cartel de Cali) was a drug cartel based in southern Colombia, around the city of Cali and the Valle del Cauca. Its founders were the brothers Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela and Miguel Rodríguez Orejuela. Jhon Jairo Velásquez Vásquez (April 15, 1962 – February 6, 2020), also known by the alias "Popeye" or "JJ", was a Colombian hitman, who was part of the criminal structure of the Medellín Cartel until his surrender to the Colombian justice system in 1992. Within this structure he claimed to be a lieutenant commanding half of the sicarios. Velásquez was born in the municipality of Yarumal, Antioquia, Colombia. John Jairo Arias Tascón (1961 – 13 June 1990), known as Pinina, was a member of the Medellín Cartel. He obtained power in the cartel's military wing and was accused of hundreds of murders.
