Antonio Ponce de León y Spínola, 11th Duke of Arcos, GE (3 October 172613 December 1780) was a Spanish peer and army officer. The last male representative of the House of Ponce de León, he was known for his extensive wealth. For a period of time, he was the sole largest employer in Western Europe, having over 3,000 servants working for him at one point. Biography Born 3 October 1726 in Madrid, he was the youngest son of Joaquín Ponce de León y Lancaster, 7th Duke of Arcos and 10th Duke of Maqueda (amongst other titles) and Ana María Spínola y de la Cerda. The Distinguished Order of the Golden Fleece ( es, Insigne Orden del Toisón de Oro, german: Orden vom Goldenen Vlies) is a Catholic order of chivalry founded in Bruges by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in 1430, to celebrate his marriage to Isabella of Portugal. Today, two branches of the order exist, namely the Spanish and the Austrian Fleece; the current grand masters are Felipe VI, King of Spain and Karl von Habsburg, head of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, respectively. The Grand Chaplain of the Austrian branch is Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna. The separation of the two existing branches took place as a result of the War of the Spanish Succession. Duke of Arcos ( es, Duque de Arcos) is an hereditary title in the Peerage of Spain, granted by Isabella I in 1493 to Rodrigo Ponce de León, then 4th Count of Arcos. The dukedom is among the first 25 titles which reached the rank of Grandee of Spain 1st Class, in 1520. Nowadays however, all Grandees are of the same class. Mariano Téllez-Girón y Beaufort Spontin, 12th Duke of Osuna, GE, OM, LH, OAN, KA (19 July 1814 – 2 June 1882), was a Spanish peer, diplomat and army officer, whose lavish exploits as Ambassador of Spain to the Russian Empire earned him admiration and popularity amongst European courts. Duke of Osuna is a Spanish noble title that was first awarded in 1562 by King Philip II of Spain to Pedro Girón de la Cueva, (Osuna, Seville, 29 July 1537 – 1590). Pedro was also Viceroy of Naples, (1582–1586), Ambassador in Portugal and 5th Count of Ureña. The fortunes of the town of Osuna started to rise in the mid-15th century. At that time, Osuna was ruled by Pedro Girón Acuña Pacheco, the younger brother of Juan Pacheco. His son Alfonso Téllez-Girón de las Casas was elevated to Count of Ureña in 1464 by King Enrique IV of Castile. The dynasty's influence increased, obtaining the title of Duke of Osuna in 1562. Osuna became the Andalusian capital of the domains of the Téllez-Girón family, who carried the ducal title.
