Antonio Martín Espina
Antonio Martín Espina (born June 18, 1966) is a Spanish retired professional basketball player. At a height of 2.10 m (6 ft 10 in), and a weight of 104 kg (230 lbs.), he played at the center position. He is the current president of the Spanish ACB. College career Martín played college basketball at Pepperdine University, with the Pepperdine Waves, during the 1986–87 season. Professional career After playing with Estudiantes, in the 1982–83 season, Martín moved to Real Madrid. He played with Real Madrid, for twelve years, from 1983, until 1995. He was a member of the FIBA European Selection team, in 1991. National team career Martín was a member of the senior Spain men's national team. With Spain, he won the bronze medal at the 1991 EuroBasket, where he was also voted to the EuroBasket All-Tournament Team. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. They traditionally play close to the basket in the low post. Centers are valued for their ability to protect their own goal from high-percentage close attempts on defense, while scoring and rebounding with high efficiency on offense. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. The FIBA Saporta Cup was the name of the second-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, where the domestic National Cup winners, from all over Europe, played against each other. The 1991 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1991, was the 27th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA Europe. It was held in Italy between 24 and 29 June 1991. Eight national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body. The Palazzo dello Sport in Rome was the hosting venue of the tournament. Yugoslavia won its fifth FIBA European title by defeating hosts Italy with an 88–73 score in the final. Yugoslavia's Toni Kukoč was voted the tournament's MVP.
