Antonin De Selliers De Moranville
Antonin Leonard Maurice Ghislain, Knight de Selliers de Moranville (Saint-Josse-ten-Noode 1852 – Ixelles 1945) was a Belgian General. Family He was born into an old catholic noble family; his father was Léonard de Selliers de Moranville, knight of Selliers de Moranville (1803–1856). He married Octavie Hector, from whom he had 7 children. Career Until 1869 student at the École Royale Militaire. Until 1914 Commander in Chief of the Rijkswacht. Chief Commander of the Belgian army since 25 May until 6 September 1914. During his office the Kingdom was invaded by the German troops and the Belgian mobilization started. On 6 September of the same year he was dismissed by the King, after advice of Lieutenant General Baron Louis de Ryckel. The same Decree abolished the function of Chief of Staff of the army. The Military Order of Christ is the former order of Knights Templar as it was reconstituted in Portugal. Before 1910 it was known as the Royal Military Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Order of the Knights of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It was founded in 1319, with the protection of Denis of Portugal, King Denis of History of Portugal, Portugal, after the Templars were abolished on 22 March 1312 by the papal bull, ''Vox in excelso'', issued by Pope Clement V. Lieutenant-General Félix Maximilien Eugène Wielemans (10 January 1863 – 5 January 1917) was the Chief of Staff of the Belgian Army during the First World War. After serving as the Chief of the Military Cabinet to the War Office under Charles de Broqueville in the run-up to the War, he took up the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff in 1914, and was promoted to Chief of the General Staff in 1915. He represented Belgium at the Allied War Council in December 1915, and the Paris Conference in March 1916. He received a large number of decorations for his role in the war, including the personal presentation of the Legion d'Honneur by General Joffre. He died suddenly in January 1917, at Houtem; the cause of his death was reported by ''The New York Times'' as pneumonia contracted whilst in the trenches.
