Anton Amann
Anton Amann (20 June 1956 – 6 January 2015) was an Austrian chemist and Professor of chemistry at the Innsbruck Medical University. He worked in the area of physical chemistry, ECG analysis, and exhaled breath analysis. Amann was the head of the Breath Research Institute of the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck (formerly an Institute of the Austrian Academy of Science) and editor in chief of the Journal of Breath Research. He authored more than 150 scientific articles. He died in Innsbruck in 2015. Career After studying chemistry at the ETH Zürich, he continued with a PhD in Science. The title of his dissertation 1984 with Hans Primas and Norbert Straumann was ''Observable in der W*-algebraischen Quantenmechanik'' (observables in W*-algebraic quantum mechanics). Quantum Mechanics
Quantum mechanics is a fundamental theory in physics that provides a description of the physical properties of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles. It is the foundation of all quantum physics including quantum chemistry, quantum field theory, quantum technology, and quantum information science. Classical physics, the collection of theories that existed before the advent of quantum mechanics, describes many aspects of nature at an ordinary (macroscopic) scale, but is not sufficient for describing them at small (atomic and subatomic) scales. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are organic compounds that have a high vapour pressure at room temperature Colloquially, "room temperature" is a range of air temperatures that most people prefer for indoor settings. Susanne Teschl
Susanne Teschl (née Timischl, born 1971) is a biomathematician and professor of mathematics at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in Vienna, Austria. She is known for her research on the mathematical modeling of breath analysis. Education and career Teschle earned a diploma in mathematical physics at the University of Graz in 1995, and completed her Ph.D. there in 1998. Her dissertation, ''A Global Model for the Cardiovascular and Respiratory System'', was supervised by Franz Kappel. After working for the Austrian Science Fund, she joined the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in 2001, and headed the Department of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences there from 2007 to 2010. Gerald Teschl
Gerald Teschl (born 12 May 1970 in Graz) is an Austrian mathematical physicist and professor of mathematics. He works in the area of mathematical physics; in particular direct and inverse spectral theory with application to completely integrable partial differential equations (soliton equations). Career After studying physics at the Graz University of Technology (diploma thesis 1993), he continued with a PhD in mathematics at the University of Missouri. The title of his thesis supervised by Fritz Gesztesy was ''Spectral Theory for Jacobi Operators'' (1995). After a postdoctoral position at the Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technische Hochschule Aachen (1996/97), he moved to Vienna, where he received his Habilitation at the University of Vienna in May 1998. Marie Curie Medal
The Marie Curie-Skłodowska Medal is a Polish annual science award conferred by the Polish Chemical Society (''Polskie Towarzystwo Chemiczne, PTCHEM'') to scientists working permanently abroad for contributions in the field of chemistry. Description It was named in honour of physicist Marie Curie (1867–1934) and first awarded in 1996. The winner receives a bronze medal depicting Marie Curie and on the reverse the Latin inscription ''Quo Magis Veritas Propagatur'' as well as the PTCHEM logo, year and the name of the laureate.
