Central Nova
Central Nova (french: Nova-Centre) is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 until 1996. In 1996, Antigonish County and part of Guysborough County were placed with Pictou County in a new electoral boundaries configuration to form the electoral district of Pictou-Antigonish-Guysborough. A new version of Central Nova was established in 2003 and — in conjunction with the Pictou-Antigonish-Guysborough iteration — represented a significant electoral boundaries change with specific reference to Antigonish County. Cape Breton Highlands—Canso was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in the provinces and territories of Canada, province of Nova Scotia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1997. History This riding was created in 1966 from Antigonish—Guysborough, Inverness—Richmond and North Cape Breton and Victoria ridings. Antigonish was a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1917. It was created in the British North America Act, 1867. The federal riding was dissolved in 1914 into the riding of Antigonish—Guysborough. It consisted of the County of Antigonish. Geography This riding was set by the British North America Act, 1867 to consist of Antigonish County. The boundaries were not changed during the electoral redistributions of 1872, 1882, 1892 or 1903. This riding was dissolved into Antigonish—Guysborough during the 1914 redistribution. John Carey Douglas
John Carey Douglas (July 14, 1874 – December 10, 1926) was a Canadian politician. Born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, the son of John and Ann (Carey) Douglas, Douglas was educated in public schools, in Stellarton, at Pictou Academy and Mount Allison University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1897 and a Master of Arts in 1909. He received a Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University in 1899 and was called to the Bar in 1900. In 1901, he started a legal practice in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. From 1908 to 1911 he was mayor of Glace Bay. From 1911 to 1916, he was a Liberal-Conservative member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly for Cape Breton County. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as the Unionist candidate for the electoral district of Cape Breton South and Richmond in the 1917 election. He was defeated in the 1921 election. William Duff (Canadian Politician)
William Duff Jr. (April 28, 1872 – April 25, 1953) was a merchant, ship owner and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Lunenburg from 1917 to 1925, Queens—Lunenburg from 1925 to 1926 and Antigonish—Guysborough from 1927 to 1936 in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member. Duff represented Lunenburg division in the Senate of Canada from 1936 until his death in 1953. Early life He was born in Carbonear, Newfoundland, the son of William Duff, and educated in Carbonear and in Scotland. Career He settled at Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, where he married Jennie E. Oxner. He became the publisher of the ''Bridgewater Enterprise'' and then the ''Lunenburg Progress'', later amalgamating the two newspapers as the ''Lunenburg Progress-Enterprise''. A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district.
