Anthony Barry
Anthony Christopher Barry (7 June 1901 – 24 October 1983) was an Irish businessman and Fine Gael politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork Borough constituency from 1961 to 1965 and 1954 to 1957. He was a Senator for the Cultural and Educational Panel from 1957 to 1961. He served as Lord Mayor of Cork from 1961 to 1962. Early life and career He was born the eldest among eleven children of James J. Barry, tea and wine merchant of Ballyhooly, County Cork, and Annie Barry (née Ryanh). His family had a small grocery business at Bridge Street in Cork. The firm specialised in teas and wines. The business later moved to Princes Street. It was awarded the Empire Cup for Tea Blending at the 1934 Grocers Exhibition in London. He spent his working life at the firm which was later developed under the tutelage of his son Peter into a major company called Barry's Tea. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Barry's Tea
Barry's Tea is an Irish tea company founded in 1901 by James J. Barry in Cork. Until the 1960s, tea was sold from a shop in Prince's Street, but thereafter the company expanded its wholesaling and distribution operations. Seán Casey (9 May 1922 – 29 April 1967) was an Irish Labour Party politician and trade union official. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Labour Party Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork Borough constituency at the 1954 general election. Stephen Declan Barrett (26 December 1913 – 8 September 1976) was an Irish people, Irish Fine Gael politician, barrister and judge. Early life He was born 26 December 1913 in Cork (city), Cork, second of three children of George Barrett, leader-writer for the ''Cork Examiner'' and later editor of the ''Evening Echo'', and Alice Mary Barrett (née O'Sullivan). His grandfather was Joseph Barrett, Lord Mayor of Cork from 1905 to 1906. He was educated at the Christian Brothers School, Cork, University College Cork, and the King's Inns. He was called to the bar in 1946. Career Between September 1931 and 1947 he served on the staff of the ''Cork Examiner'' as reporter, sub-editor, and, finally, chief sub-editor and assistant leader-writer. Mayor Of Limerick
The office of Mayor of the City and County of Limerick is currently the title used by the chairperson of Limerick City and County Council. Prior to the establishment of the council, the Mayor of Limerick was the chairperson of Limerick City Council. The office was originally established in 1195 and reinforced by a charter issued in 1197. Election to the office The Mayor is elected to office annually by councillors of Limerick City and County Council from amongst its members. There is currently no popular vote, but in May 2019 a plebiscite was held during 2019 Irish local elections, the local elections which voted in favour of a directly elected mayor, with the first expected to be elected in 2022.
