Anthonie Blocklandt Van Montfoort
Anthonie Blocklandt van Montfoort, Anthonie van Blocklandt or Anthonie van Montfoort (1533 or 1534 - 18 October 1583) was a Dutch painter. Life He was born in Montfoort, where his father was at one time mayor. He went to learn under Hendrick Sweersz. in Delft and Frans Floris in Antwerp. In 1552 he returned to Montfoort, where he married the daughter of the then mayor. Blocklandt then settled in Delft, where he produced paintings for the Oude Kerk and the Nieuwe Kerk, later lost to the beeldenstorm. Also he painted a work for the Janskerk (Gouda) called ''De onthoofding van Saint-Jacob'', now in the museum there. He died in Utrecht. In 1572, Blocklandt made a trip to Italy, after which he settled for good in Utrecht, joining a guild there in 1577. In 1579, he painted his best known work, the triptych '' The Assumption of Mary'' that is now in the Basilica of St. Martin in Bingen am Rhein. Anthonie Duyck (c. 1560 – 13 September 1629 ) was Grand Pensionary of Holland between 1621 and 1629. Life Anthonie Duyck was a descendant of a notable hollandic family which was founded in the 13th century. Anthonie was the son of Gijsbert Duyck, lord of Oud Karspel, who was appointed schout of Hoorn in 1580. Anthonie was born in The Hague and studied law in Leiden. In 1588, he became ''advocaat-fiscaal'' (public prosecutor) at the ''Raad van State''. This was, next to the States-General of the Netherlands, the central constitutional body of the United Provinces. As official of the ''Raad van State,'' he accompanied Prince Maurice of Orange on his military campaigns between 1591 and 1602. He wrote long reports about these military campaigns for his superiors in The Hague. In 1602, he became '' griffier'' at the court of Holland. Anthonie (or Antonius) Heinsius (23 November 1641, Delft – 3 August 1720, The Hague) was a Dutch statesman who served as Grand Pensionary of Holland from 1689 to his death in 1720. Life Heinsius was born at Delft on 23 November 1641, son of a wealthy merchant and patrician. In 1679 he became pensionary for Delft in the States of Holland and in 1687 he became a member of the board of the Delft chamber of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). In 1682 he was appointed special negotiator to France by stadholder William III of Orange. Dr Anthonie Johannes Theodorus Janse, also known as Antonius Johannes Theodorus Janse and by other orthographic variations, was a pioneer of South African entomology who specialised in Lepidoptera. His multi-volumed work, ''The Moths of South Africa'' is recognized as a definitive text. Life and career Janse was born in the Hague, Netherlands in 1877 to Antonie Johannes Janse and his wife Willemina Broekhuisen. He migrated to South Africa in 1889 and taught as a missionary in schools in northern Transvaal Waterval (Nuwe Smitsdorp). He was interned at Pinetown during the Second Boer War. He worked as a photographer in Pietersburg. He taught biology, geography, and human physiology at Normal College, Pretoria, from 1905 until his retirement in 1937.
